This could turn out to be a very good fight. I'm certainly looking forward to it.

Will Sturm regain some of his good form for this fight? Will Sylvester give as self-assured a performance as he did in his last?

My heart says Sylvester but my head says Sturm. I look forward to hearing what those who know more about these two fighters think.

Please keep us all up to date with the latest news and information. Thanks!

My thoughts as well. Sturm looked very good a few months ago, although his opponent wasn't too good if i remember well. I will root for Sylvester because he's the live underdog, but ultimately, Sylvester is European/borderline world level, whereas Sturm is proven at world level. I expect Sturm by decision.

i think sturms height advantage/straight up style and jab will be the right style to beat sylvester.

    sturm was quite good v griffen 2 /average v griffen 1
average v pittman and is blowing hot and cold.

sylvester IMO has a fairly limited style that is effective and suits his height, just with his build and shortness you expect him to be a hatton type fighter , instead he likes to be a more technical fighter and IMO sturm is A better technical fighter than sylvester and wins on points because of it.

Tough call for me, but definitely an interesting matchup.. I'll have to go with Sturm in this one although I can also see Sylvester winning this one.. His KO of Castillejo was brutal..

    Sturm UD Sylvester

Sorry Sean, but I have to correct you:

Sturm has no reach advantage as Sylvester has the arms of a ******...

If Sylvester lands big, is that enough to take Sturm out? What is Sturm's chin like? And can Sylvester win on points against Sturm?

Trust me, that has fight of the month potential and just look which fights are on for November...

Sturm is chinny, Sylvester is chinny but Sturm has no real punching power - both have great/good jabs and Sylvester has some pop. In addition, Sturm has a leaky guard and Sylvester is a bleeder...I can't wait siiting ring side to cheer for good with 10.000 people in the stands come November 1... :happy

Sounds great. Is this fight on HBO or Showtime? From what people say in this thread, this fight could be real exciting, especially if Sylvester wins.

Sorry bro, but this isn't even a minor PPV in the US but simply not available on US TV - only chance is to look out for sopcast or download the fight from WBVA i.e. :-(

It is a great shame that some of these good European fights are not shown over in the States. They keep feeding us hyped US second-raters instead of giving us the good stuff from abroad. I was just reading earlier that the Hopkins vs. Pavlik fight is free in Britain. Free! And we have to pay to see it here... But if I wanted to spend money to see this good fight from Europe it's not even available. Thanks for your answer. I'll go with sopcast then.

Yep but Sylvester has improved very much over the last few fights although I don´t expect it this could very well end up in beeing Sylvester´s coming out party at world level.

you already gave a good analysis Tom.

I always slightly favoured Sturm in this one, but I'm not so sure about it now. A real pick'em fight. There's no question that Sturm is the better boxer, but is he the better fighter at this point? The question is: will this be a boxing match or a real fight?
Sturm has the better skills hands down, whereas Sylvester has a pretty fundamental style. Sylvesters style works well for him tho, he's good at what he does. Rewatched some of his fights and he's not as limited as I remembered him. I also think he has underrated punching power, since he brutally knocked out tough and ironchinned Castillejo with a perfectly timed straight right. It seems to me that Sylvester is the hungrier fighter, and he's prepared very well for this fight. He probably wants that belt more than the 'star' Felix Sturm. That will be an inportant factor. Anyways, I see two scenarios how this fight can turn out:

-Sturm jabbing, running and clinching his way to a close and boring decision.

-Sylvester imposing his style and make it a real fight, brawling a bit and take Sturm into deep waters where his will to win comes into play - Sylvester wants it more and is hungrier and tougher, whereas I doubt that Sturm is willing to put it all on the line to prevail... Sylvester would win a decision or maybe even get a late stoppage if the fight turns out this way.

Anyways I'll root for Sylvester who I think is a honest and modest (but not the brightest) person with a very cool team around him. He achieved his status through hard work and willpower, not talent. And I can't stand the snobby and boring Sturm, who is holding his belt hostage. That's why I voted Sylvester by decision.
