114-113 Hopkins, so says the Associated Press, ESPN.com and many ESBers.

...and all of your opinions are worth precisely ZERO.

Two of the 3 judges scored the fight for Calzaghe. Therefore he won.

    End of story.

    HBO 9-3 to Calzaghe
    BOXING*****E 9-3 to Calzaghe
    BOXING**********L 9-3 to Calzaghe
    SETANTA - 8-4 to Calzaghe
    MYSELF - 9-3 to Calzaghe

EASTSIDEBOXING POLL - 400votes to Calzaghe (Something like 70 for Hopkins) - Cant be bothered looking for actual results.

RUMSFELD (MOST DIE-HARD HOPKINS FAN ON ESB) "Calzaghe deserved the win" - Respect to him.

I had hopkins winning about 3 rounds. From 5th round onwards Joe completely took control. If joe hadnt had the bad start I honestly think people would say Joe dominated.

    Salt..sit down.

No doubt this was a close match but Joe won. It could have gone to Hopkins depending on how you judge or score fights...I think Joe won by two rounds even with the KD. So that says Joe did a lot to make up for the bad start. Joe did slap a lot and he didn't do any real damage but he beat hop to the punch and he hit him a lot more. Bhop did more damage but it wasn't enough for the judges.

That's some ol' Bull**** man....Joe was more than Fair. Joe was hitting behind the head, low blows ect...and Joe let him fight...Not to say Hop didn't come in with his head and hit behind the head as well. but the person who was using more dirty tatics was Joe and he needed to in order to keep Hopkins honest. Joe Cortez did an excellent job with refing this match.

It was a close fight! Point blank....Joe said so himself at the end of the fight and said it was one of his toughest opponents. I think Joe won by being busy throughout the fight but he was eating some very clean counter shots....just not enough in the eyes of the judges.

There is no shame in loosing to Joe and there is no shame in winning a close fight by a 43 yr old Hopkins. Hop is a very clever fighter and loosing was a real situation that could have played out.

But Joe did what he had to do and deserved the win.....Some say Hopkins could have deserved the win as well. In a close fight that really could have gone either way you'll have fans split on who won.. I'm with Joe.

For christ sake he lost the fight!!!!. You can't win by backing up and throwing 2-3 punches a round. He did good for a 43 year old thats it.

Yeah, good point about Cortez, too. Though he didn't take any points away, he was definitely getting on JC about fouling more than he was on BHop (even though BHop by far fought dirtier)...also, letting BHop take that long rest from a non-existent low blow was crappy. It really helped BHop, who was getting gassed at that point.

I could see BHop winning 5 rounds tops, which would've made it a very close fight w/the kd. I had it 8-4 for JC.

I don't think it can be said enough times that BHop's no-risk style of grappling and rough tactics (fighting to not get hit) is impossible to look good against. This doesn't equal winning fights with effective aggression and clean blows/combos, however.

You bring up a good point, Cortez is one of the worst refs in boxing. He never lets the guys fight. He can't stay out of the spot light for a second. I hate when I see him in a fight, as I know its going be the Cortez show.

Quit the 'joe did not hurt him , hopkins face was beautiful after the fight' **** lads!! Fights are not scored on wether or not the punch hurt the recipient ffs! Else we would have to have some sort of measuring devices attached to the boxers, or specially trained people ringside to spot the grimaces and only then count it as a legitimate scoring shot!

Calzaghe won that fight by basically looking like he wanted it more, he pressed the action continuously, threw combos the whole fight, sure a lot didnt land, but he landed more than hopkins FACT.....the fact that hopkins threw harder shots dont mean **** im afraid!! Hopkins fought fantastically......in bursts ONLY! That aint enough to win rounds against someone who works every second of the round like JC, he steals rounds with his workrate. Had hopkins been more consistent the fight would be his, as it stood he didnt have the stamina, he lost plain and simple.

Acutally Damage is part of scoring but you have to weight the positives and negatives like.....Joe not having the power to hurt Bhop but JOe was the more active fighter and Bhop wasn't throwing as much but landed the cleaner more effective punches.

Its really how you choose to score for either fighter...which is why this fight was so close. Hop landed the better puhches and quality punches while Joe landed more at a better prcentage and look to be the aggressor although most was ineffective. Joe won b/c he seemed to want it more by pushing the actions even when Hope was successfully countering.

calzaghe was far from impressive and slapped but it's better than throwing one punch every 30 seconds, holding on like an octopus waldo-style, and faking low blows.

116-112 Calzaghe. Dan Rafael cant score a fight to save his life. He's lucky he can write.....

    Rafael also said:
"Even if you think Hopkins won, and plenty of us at ringside thought he eked out a one-point decision, Calzaghe should still be commended for his excellent performance. For anyone who doubted his greatness in the wake of his victory last fall against Mikkel Kessler, this should finally convince you."
