114-113 Hopkins, so says the Associated Press, ESPN.com and many ESBers.

The point being, those that are unbiased recognized this as a very close fight, regardless of who you had winning.

Everyone I watched the fight with scored it for Calzaghe and we're all big Nard fans. It was a weird fight. Calzaghe did nothing but slap the whole fight, and looked like an amateur for a good portion of the fight. However, Nard didn't throw enough punches. All he had was the straight right. After Calzaghe finally figured out that that was Nard's only effective punch, the fight was over. Everyone who I watched the fight with said the same thing, "Calzaghe won, but he's not very good". That pretty much summed up the fight. Calzaghe did not look good but won because the other guy didn't want to throw any punches. It's the same **** that cost him in the first fight with Taylor.

Here's the thing Calzaghe had every advantage going into this fight, however he didn't look good in beating a fighter eight years older than him in a fight he was favored to win.

Rumor has it that Joe used unconventional training methods to prepare for his encounter with Hopkins. I read somewhere that Joe's chief method of training for this bout involved having him go out late at night, run to the pub, get liquored up and then come home in the wee hours of the morning wanting to pick a fight with his woman. What followed was Joe mercilessly slapping the **** out of her for about a good 10, 12 rounds. The next morning after Joe recovered from his roaring drunk state he would then have his woman tended to by one of Wales' finest private physicians. Allegedly this was routine in his training camp. Now I'm not saying that this had anything to do with his approach towards fighting Bernard but . . .

At this point, this training method is unsubstantiated. I only read it on one pro-Hopkins site. It'd be interesting enough if it were found to be true. Regardless, Joe was slapping last night.

No one looks good against a spoiler, especially an extremely experienced and crafty spoiler like Hopkins.

Ask yourself why Hopkins felt the need to spoil so much in that fight - your answer should be that he realised he couldn't compete with Calzaghe otherwise.

I agree, but I would say that no fighter is going to look good against hops.

Yeah but he looked liked he didn't have clue in some instances. He was walking right into shots, and couldn't avoid the only punch that Hopkins was throwing. All the slapping doesn't make him look good either All the holding by Hopkins is going to pretty much guarentee that it's going to be an ugly fight. However, no way Calzaghe should've been hit with that many straight rights. I give him credit though for making proper adjustments down the stretch.
