I can't ever recall De La Hoya imploying that style at all against Hopkins.

I thought Oscar won in a close one. Have not scored the fight but it could have gone either way, but Pea was not busy enough for me.

I forget who said this but I think it rings true for this fight. "show the judge's that you want to win the fight/round"

In one of the rounds Hoya threw a flurry and Pea ducked all of them and was going backwards, but did not throw a punch back. Who would you score the round for?, one guy is throwing inafective punches while the other is not throwing any punches?.

Last time I checked ineffective aggression isnn't part of the scoring criteria. Funnily enough, defense is though.

The only way you can neutralise Whitaker's points for defense in those sequences is if you think Oscar was the ring general in those sequences; making Whitaker duck for cover and close up shop. I was more of the school of thought that he made Oscar look silly though, so Whitaker scores points for defense and ring generalship in those moves.

On the issue of whether Whitaker or Mayweather did more damage against DLH, I don't think either did a whole lot of damage. Floyd landed a few more flush power shots, Whitaker landed quite a few more jabs. I felt Whitaker's defense was better than Floyd's, but Mayweather was officially hit with less punches than Whitaker through punch stat.

oscar was pressing the fight and Pernell made him miss alot. It wasn;t the best fight but i think Oscar was the one making the fight. Pernell made Oscar look bad at times but Pernell ddnt do much, come on!! I would love to sit down with all you pernell nut hugger fans and see how you can justify a pernelll win.

He certainly didn't have both hands up, thumbs back, in the usual protective guard position that he employed when he was younger. Only his right hand, he kept up high. In fact, I remember Delahoya dropping his left hand more in his twilight years and exposing his lead front shoulder.

He used it against Gatti and Castielljo, regularly. And in spots against Vargas.

I can say for certain it wasn't used for Hopkins, Mosley II, Mayweather jnr and Mayorga.

Oscar did look silly, but who looks good against Sweet Pea?,in other fights Sweet Pea made the other fighter pay when they missed. Oscar was pressing the fight tho'. It was a close fight that could have gone either way.
