Some reports are saying he was 144lbs in the ring. Let's say it was 25lbs, that would be like a 154lber going to 186.6lbs, a 168lber going to 203.6 or even a cruiserweight hydrating to an AJesque 242.4lbs!!! I haven't even heard of MMA fighters rehydrating as much p4p, obviously some bigger guys might do more raw numbers but not as a % of initial weight
K1 ATG Gevorg Petrosyan fought Ole Laursen a few years ago. Laursen put on 14kgs, if I remember correctly. Dude went from 70 to 84kgs, which is about 30lbs. Absolutely insane and useless. Petrosyan knocked him out easily.
25lbs is 25 lbs. It wont mean that a Cruiserweight would have been at 242. 25lbs seems to be the upper limit anyways. And MMA is more notorious for extreme weight cuts. Not just dehydration but in camp weight cuts in general. I can´t remember the dudes name, but he starts camp at 200+(and he is already lean) and finishes at 170 during the weigh in. After 15 lbs, things get really difficult. Even for the big boys.
Nah, you forgetting the BS guys said about poor old drained DLH vs Pac? There's a case of a big guy missing the mark on rehydration. And yet, the consensus was that Pac drained him. Point is you can and will make whatever excuse per ones bias.
This draining and rehydration thing is starting to get out of control. I've been well against it for a while but it was pointed out to me it's a natural gift if you can do it, as is a big punch or iron chin or great stamina so why should it be viewed any different and penalized. But this is not healthy for a fighter and they are pushing the limits more and more. There comes a point where it is time for same day weigh ins or rehydration clauses in all fights
What we need is IN RING weight limits. Ultimately it's the in ring weight that matters. That's what is most important. Weight classes are SUPPOSED to match two boxers of the same weight. Currently that isn't happening. Quigg dwarfed Valdez. McDonnell dwarfed inoue, etc etc
Of course it's hard for anyone to cut 20lbs. Its obviously a lot harder for a 143lber to cut 25lbs than it would be a 225lber. The human body is 60ish % water. A 225lber has a lot more water content to drop.
But it has been obvious that even the smaller guys can dehydrate as much as tje big guys. Its rather odd.
