For those of you comparing deaths in youth sports in the US or the UK.....do kids play
170 games of baseball or football or soccer? Against adults?? Before the age of 8!?

 

I believe @IntentionalButt made a thread about a 14 year old Thai fighter and asked what the minimum age to sign professional in Thailand was and nearly everybody agreed is was basically child abuse.

This is tragic and in my opinion criminal.

 

Check out the Thailand episode from Fight World on Netflix. There was a young kid on there that had a ton of fights already, he lost & his couch berated him. Felt bad for the kid.

 

If I was the kid I would feel spooked as well.

 

Sometimes it is for us to tell other people what we think they should do and why. Too many seriously ****ed up things get given a BS passion things due to 'cultural sensitivities'.

 

There's a consent issue involved when you are dealing with kids that age and combat sports. Football at that level has gotten a lot safer, and even that is controversial. In this case, though, there's simply no excuse for kids that age fighting. I can see it with headguard and large gloves, but pro fighting at 13?

Those few paragraphs encapsulate the whole problem with That fighting culture especially as pertains to youth involvement (a culture that fosters exploitation, predatory class hegemony, lack of serious oversight and common-sense regulatory limits imposed, everything driven by pure capitalist greed taken all the way to its grotesque logical extremes) and the solution (regulate, Regulate, REGULATE - until there are no more skeletons in the closet for all us "nosy, paternalistic, Western moral absolutist buddinskis" to balk at)
