I need say nothing more about this fight, 2 guys who ALWAYS make the top 5 p4p all time lists from guys who have seen enough of both fighting at their best weight... welterweight (147 lbs) They fought before but srr admits that armstrong was over the hill at the time as ray won on points but who wins prime v prime, you decide, you have 2 days.
Armstrong wasn't just over the hill when these two met, he was shot. They sparred, as I understand it, and the normally bloodthirsty Garden gtave two of it's favourites sons a pass from what I can gather. Peak for peak? Armstrong goes out on his sheild, helped from the ring after a serious serious pasting. Hank may be the better fighter, but he is to small for the best Welter who ever lived.
yeah, i agree. armstrong was too small for welter. he has lots of defenses but look at the comp!!! mostly handpicked bums. robinson would go right at it with armstrong like he did vs gavilan. but the power and speed and sizeadvantage would be too much for armstrong. by round ten armstrongs eyes would be shut and his mouth would be bleeding like as if he had been chewing on a handgranade! the doc stops it. robinson tko 10.
One more vote for Robinson. Henry Armstrong is an amazing fighter though.....He is one of those fighters who absolutely defies logic! In the films I've seen.... He always comes forward! No matter who the opponent was...Can you imagine a FEATHERWEIGHT fighting welterweights and pushing them back! There will never be another Armstrong... I think Ray stops Hank from the 10th round on
