Duran all day long. Two of his greatest performances are at 147. 147 was a step or two well past JCC's comfort zone, comparative to say 135 and 130. Duran handled the weight so much better.

How about if Roberto was coming down in weight to make the fight, like De La Hoya against Pacquiao?

Chavez takes this. Duran was short then and back then if you were short you lost some of the time almost every time.

The best of 147 Duran wrecks Chavez, compare Chavez's resume at 147 with brawl in Montreal alone.

It seems extreme to call this a mismatch but I think it is. Duran moved comfortably up to 147 (and beyond) but Chavez was never a proper welterweight. He weighed 142 against Whitaker (who was a small welterweight himself) and his record at the weight is poor. Duran, by contrast, owns one of the best wins at any weight while at 147 as well as another top draw win as a contender.

I think Duran would beat Chavez at lightweight but I think Chavez at least has a chance there as he was an outstanding 135 pounder himself, but Duran would likely have been able to stop Chavez in this welterweight hypothetical.

At 140 we have an interesting fight, I think.

But JC Superstar was never a welterweight and he gets taken apart by the best versions of Duran at that weight. (Say Roberto of Ray I or Palomino.)

Now there are versions of Duran at147 (Zeferino Gonzalez comes to mind first) that might struggle against JCC or even lose, but that’s not usually how we do these unless someone specifies a version (a la Tokyo Douglas or FotC Frazier, Hagler of Mugabi, etc).

    At 147, Duran quite easily

It’s a better matchup at 135 and 140. I still pick Duran, but they would be more competitive fights.
