mowed down Flamingo birds in his car killing them for fun. fed a live labrodor dog to his pit bulls to eat said he would do serious permant damage to Benn said he was goning to knock out cold Benns old man Dennis
That was the last fight Benn was good in. It took it all from him. But on that night i think an argument can be made for him giving any 168lb fighter in history a hell of a fight.
The long count, yeah you should be right to the floor to get 20seconds, but G hit Benn several times when only the ropes had him up, so the ref blundered there too. It was those extra shots that put Nigel through the ropes, he should have taken a count before he was through. He adjusted his style superbly after that. Coming in low under his straight shots and hooking ferociously.
We went to the pub after the fight and some drunk was telling me Benn won due to his superior defence!
There's drunk, then there is absolutely minging. Not even Benn's most die-hard fans could say he had a great defence, but that's what made him so exciting. :happy
I think what Flea meant was that between fights McClellan walked around at 190 and had to boil himself down to middleweight. The really sad thing is there were signs at least a year before the fight that McClellan had potential neurological problems.
really. not to serious at that point tho obviously. mind u saying that dont parkinsons run in family and ali's grandad or something have it. i mite be wrong but think i heard that somwhere
Brutal Brutal fight...when i watch it now i get hairs on back of my neck and tear in the eye. Remember as a 6 year old watching my dad baying for Blood...shouting at Benn to do him. It's so sad what happened to Gerald....looking at his fight's shows how damn good he was. Benn makes me proud to be British...but both make me proud to be a fan of this sport. God Bless them both and i raise a glass to these two warriors.
Apparently in early 94 McClellan was sparring with a welterweight down at the Kronk, the welterweight hit McClellan with a jab and McClellan was screaming that he'd been butted. After the session however, McClellan went up to the sparring partner and said he knew it was a jab but was surprised at the pain it caused. There's an interview with the guy knocking about somewhere so I'll try and find it then post it here, he also apparently had regular headaches and was suffering from these on the morning of the Benn fight.
