On a sidenote, it's funny that Mayweather didn't blow up and get noticed beyond the diehard boxing fans until he ditched his humility and class and replaced it with cockiness and arrogance. After seeing and getting used to his persona in the later half of his career, the FMJ at the beginning of this vid is almost unrecognizable. Great fight - WW and Tito by the way - good post thanka Chuck, as usual.
yeah he became a troll like Trump & tekashi 69. “Money” May perfectly timed his trolling On the de la Hoya mega fight & won BIG ever since. Perfectly timed Trolling works. Props & respect to the man taking such a defensive style & becoming the biggest PPV draw in the sport!
Exactly. TBH acting arrogantly and like a jerk is one of the best and savviest business strategies in modern sports - if not the best.
I always found it funny how the Floyd fanatics would get so upset that posters didn't like his new "act". As if Floyd wasn't actively trying to be a villain to promote fights. And then they call other boxers "fake"...
It’s too bad we never got to see money may vs Tito. Would have been close to shutout most likely. still would have been interesting to see it play out.
true but to be fair to them if they are talking about De La Hoya I understand. Great boxer & prize fighter in his day one of my favorites but dude was & is super fake. It’s cringe worthy.
Ronald's jab was incredible that night. His slick quick southpaw jab was a laser aimed at Tito's head. Brilliant job by Winky
I hate to make this a Mayweather thread, but I have to agree with you. I was a huge pbf fan until he adopted the money persona. He was a very likable guy. He was also putting on shows at this point in his career. He has so many different styles and he was going into straight shootouts in 04and 05 before he started pot shotting and using movement. A true master. As far as wright vs trinidad goes, I was so big on trinidad. Watching him lose to wright ruined my night! But he was part time boxer at this point and the mayorga fight made him seem a lot more live than he actually was at this point. Plus, there's no shame losing to winky - he was a level above most
Tito spent all night in that shaky nervous energy stance throwing short punches that had no chance of landing on Winky. It was like Tito forgot how to punch.
I think he was so economical he would wait for openings to throw punches. Winky didnt give him any good looks and it wasnt Trinidad's style to punch to create openings. I've heard someone say in an interview -I think it was sam soliman - that punching against winky's guard was like hitting a brick wall. He was that physically strong.
Winky beat Trinidad when the latter wasn't at his prime. Prime Trinidad would have no problem beating Winky. His guard defense could be broken.
