I remember watching this fight live (on TV). And to this day I remember the atmosphere coming through the TV during the stare down. It was intense. Those were golden days for boxing.

Oscar was a douche for never giving a rematch

Tito won the fight but he didn't beat De La Hoya. Thought DLH won fairly easy, just got bad corner advice in those last 3 rounds.

De La Hoya vs Trinidad was a boring fight, which is the reason why I won't re-watch it, that being said I can't remember Trinidad ever even landing a shot!

De La Hoya got a gift decision against Quartey though.

I haven't seen the fight in over a decade. But I seem to remember him running for more than the last 3 rounds?

Why he ran is a mystery. He had a good enough chin to not get KO'd late. Terrible tactics.

    This fight is terrible.

Trinidad is even more one dimensional than Pacquiao.

Thing is Oscar boxed the entire fight.

    These announcers suck.

    I had DLH winning..

2nd time watching this fight. Never again

    Hahah

Yeah I'm not going to bother re-watching that. Once was enough.

I have to say like most that Oscar should have gotten the W in this one. I did think it was close-ish, but also relatively clear. On that sort of stage, calling it a "robbery" isn't an overly dramatic claim.

Who would have guessed that both those fighters going in wouldn't be near what everyone at that time assumed they would be remembered as 15 years later (bona fide ATG's is what many were assuming they were or would be)?

Whoa, that is not true as far as I remember. Trinidad wanted 60% and wouldn't take less. He priced himself out of the rematch. Oscar was by far the main draw and most felt he was robbed so there was no way tito was getting 60%

I've said this before, I think this was the only fight where I saw a guy win based not on what HE DID, but based on what the other guy apparently didn't do in the final few rounds.
The decision was BS, the judges were paid for. One of the judges gave Oscar the 12th, realizing his card had tito too far ahead and didn't want it to look suspicious, meanwhile backfiring making the judging look even more sketchy. Giving a round to oscar he clearly didn't deserve, and then giving tito several rounds he was dominated in.
    116-112 Oscar.
