157 Catchweight=Disadvantage for Williams??

I am as puzzled as everyone else is as to why Williams demanded a 157 catchweight.

He himself has been fighting at 160 for his past 10 fights, which means he will have to cut more weight that he has been accustomed to. He should make the weight fine, but its still extra weight for him to lose

Martinez on the other hand is a junior middleweight that went up to 160, won the lineal championship, and then intended to go back down to 154 but decided to stay at middlweight. He weighed in at 159 against Pavlik. Making 157 wont be an issue for him at all.

Why do you demand a catchweight that is a lower weight for yourself but a higher weight for your opponent?

If he can make 157 then why not demand a 151 catchweight? Thereby weight draining martinez?

Williams has been fighting at 160, not martinez. Its more a weight cut for Williams than maravilla

Obviously not, but why bother with the ****ing catchweight then? Williams already weighed 157 for his first fight with Martinez. Only in his last 2 fights has Martinez weighed 159. Its not as if he struggling to make the 154 or 160 limit.

The whole thing seems rather nonsensical

 

Look at Boxrec. Both men can make the weight comfortably. Williams has in fact been fighting 160 pounds fighters more often than martinez has. Both men have zero issue making 154. Neither have ever even weighed in at 160 for a fight
