Here is my wish list for 2012 - they could all take place on HBO 1- Pirog/Geale winner v Martinez 2- Kirkland V Lemieux (fun factor) 3- Lee V Macklin (fun factor) 4- Sturm V Proksa 5- Golovkin V Hassan Ndam N'ham (preferably in USA) 6- Fernando Guerrero V Danny Jacobs (crossroads fight) 7- Kid Chocolate Quilin V Darren Barker (preferably in USA) And if Alverez is able to move up then this could be the icing on the cake JCCJR - Canelo Alvarez (fun factor again) BTW when I say fun factor its not that they arent all fun to watch but you just get the feeling that, for example, 2 MExicans going at each other and 2 Irish going at each other mean you just know they are going to be fan pleasing fights for the neutrals.
is that the play off scenario ... the winners fight for the ultimate prize the losers are bouncing back to fight for the left overs?
As much as I'd love that it wasn't the scenario I had imagined. But if even one of those fights came off in 2012 I think the fans would be in for a treat. If 3 of them came off I'd be surprised but absolutely delighted:good
There might not be a lot of big names at 160 but there's a whole ****ing lot of good fights that can be made. I'd love to see Golovkin-Pirog, I think that would be a great match-up of boxer-punchers. N'Kijam-Macklin, Proksa-Barker, Canelo-Chavez, Lemiuex-Quillen and Angulo-Lee all sound good too.
The middleweight division is ripe for a good tournament, but not in the "Super Six" format. That format allowed for way to many delays, and pissing matches in negotiations. When Sauerland and Showtime announced the S-6 they made it sound like is was all set-up. Later on we found out that things like venue and money, et, were still negotiable. They should have had everything mapped out before the tourney started.
1- Pirog/Geale winner v Martinez - Martinez 2- Kirkland V Lemieux - Lemieux - Martinez 3- Lee V Macklin - Macklin 4- Sturm V Proksa - Proska - Proska - Martinez 5- Golovkin V Hassan Ndam N'ham - Golovkin 6- Fernando Guerrero V Danny Jacobs - Jacobs - Golovkin 7- Kid Chocolate Quilin V Darren Barker - Quillin - Quillin - Quillin - Martinez Martinez kicks ass :hey
lol - Martinez is probably the best out of the lot but I bet one of them derails him. Styles make fights. Martinez has not faced many full fledged middleweights. I mean he is deservedly top man I'm not disputing that. But I'd like to see him clean up the division before we jump to conclusions. Let's see him with any top 5 ans see:bbbThe real point here though is this - take any of those other fighters at 160 and mix or match them up what ever way you like eg. Proksa V JCCJR or Barker V Sturm or Lee V Quililn or Macklin V Pirog or Lemeiux V Proksa and what I am saying is - you, me, and everyone all over the world who is intersted in 160 at the moment is in for a treat. I mean these are fights that the fans will watch. When Lemeiux fought Rubio for example, when Lee fought Vera, when Quillin fought McEwan and when Barker fought Martinez, it gave us all some interest and the fights weren't boring. We just need to see these guys in action against each other. I forgot Rubio in the original post by the way - my bad. But anyway lets see these guys fight some round robin stlye. I agree with Boo about the s6 having it's flaws. Lets see the new improved version. Let's get ready to rumble once again - know what I mean:hey
I don't think you'll ever see anything like the Super Six again with headline level fighters. Look at what the Super Six did to Arthur Abraham. It could be said that it ruined his career. Kelly Pavlik kind of said that a tournament like that would be bad for a boxer. One thing that I appreciate about MMA (not at all comparing it to the sweet science - there is no comparison) is that losses on a record don't mean the end of a career for a fighter. We in the boxing community tend to hold on to the concept of a boxer keeping his zero more than we should. A loss - or a bunch of losses shouldn't be the end of a career IMHO.
