I don't understand you guys saying the 160 pounders are weak look at the top ten and champ

    Champ Kelly Pavlik
    # 1 Arthur Abraham
    # 2 Felix Sturm
    # 3 Paul Williams
    # 4 Winky Wright
    # 5 Anthony Mundine
    # 6 John Duddy
    # 7 Giovanni Lorenzo
    # 8 Marco Antonio Rubio
    # 9 David Lopez
    # 10 Sebastian Zbik
Thats a strong division :nono No need for Pavlik too move up to 168 there are great fights at 160 for Kelly.:good

I think the reason why people would say that the Middleweight division is weak is because its champion was thoroughly dominated by Bhop.

    its not that.

weight jumps can really hurt some fighters.

its just that a lot of fighters are "what ifs" and not proven.

I think its middle of the pack to be honest. Not weak, not one of the strongest either.

Top tier is pretty good, its depth however leaves a little to be desired.

No it's not.And Winky is not rated for some time now.Williams hasn't beaten 1 ranked contender.Mundine is past it.Duddy?Lorenzo lost to a shot Marquez who got punished by Abraham.
Pavlik and Abraham are playing mandatory for a while now.

Middleweight is extremely weak right now. Supermiddleweight is far more packed with talent, as is jr middleweight to a lesser degree.

It's always a bad sign for a division when one of the top dogs get's convingly beaten by a faded fighter who wasn't really a top fighter to begin with.

And even Abraham looked unimpressive against Marquez.

MW is a very shallow division and i said that before the Hopkins domination. Although there are good fighters at the top, it is nothing like SMW in that once you get past the top 5 it goes down hill very, very fast.

SMW is shallow too...only calzaghe and kessler made a name in that division.

Yeah because name and fame is the only factor in determining the strength of fighters in a division. Theres more to depth than the top couple of fighters, hence the word depth is used.

There are no great and outstanding names there. After Pavlik and Abraham there are no real stars. Williams is too small to really make any impact at that weight, guys like Rubio and Duddy are opponents more than serious contenders, Sturm hasn't the balls to fight anyone and was KOed by an old Castillejo, Lopez is alright but posseses a weak chin and probably won't accomplish much anyway, and so on and so forth.

In closing, division is lame and anyone can see that.
