160: SRL vs Hopkins - who wins?

the last time i watched the fight was a couple of months ago, at the time of the fight roy jones was a level above hopkins, you try to make it out as if they were on the same level by saying that they both fought before there prime. at the time of the fight it was a huge step in class for hopkins but not for roy jones, jones had fought castro who had over 70 wins wheras hopkins had been fighting decent fighters but no one that could cause him problems.

a prime hopkins has the intelligance to create the opening, the speed to take advantage of it, and the power to make it hurt nd catch the eye.

jones was a special fighter at his peak but i believe hopkins was just as good.

Hopkins would win a decision. He is at his best against welterweights.

Hopkins was also a great fighter at his best. Bernard doesn't qualify as a typical Ray Leonard opponent, being that he isn't apt to letting Ray get the best of him with the pre-fight head games and such. It also doesn't help that Hops is taller with longer reach. Right there Hops strays beyonds Ray's preferred comfort level with opposition.

I'd bet the farm on Hopkins to outpoint Leonard in a middleweight bout.

Have you seen the Castro fight? He did not cause Roy problems.

The were not on the same level, Jones was better, but not by a massive amount like you are making out.

Jones won 8 or 9 rounds with a broken hand at that stage.

Hopkins never had the ability to land enough to beat Jones on points, particularly when Jones throws more pleasing fast flashy judge impressing combinations and does not get hit at all as in not just blocks punch's but moves out of the way of them totally. Therefore a points win is unlikly

Hopkins would no doubt catch Jones at some point, but he did not have enough power to stop Jones with one shot. Plus he could not time Jones cleanly enough due to Roy's reflex's.

Hopkins would and could not beat Jones Jr prime-prime.

I doubt Hopkins would knock him out. This isn't Trinidad or De La Hoya, who he still went into the later rounds with. SRL is far more elusive.

i would say they were one level apart, roy jones was brought through better and hopkins fought roy way too early in his carreer.

as i said before i expect jones to start of good, i think he would boss the early part of the fight, but hopkins would begin to figure roy out, and every fighter makes mistakes, and a prime hopkins would have the intelligence to capitalise on that. i don't think a prime hopkins drops roy with one shot, but hopkins would have the power to make roy pay and hopkins is the most accurate puncher of this genration so in his prime hopkins would be good enough to catch roy jones clean.

stylistically, hopkins has everything that would and could beat roy jones prime-prime.

Now on SRL vs Bhop, Hop will win becoz of the size difference.. but on a p4p match up, I will take SRL via shutout decision.
