They had to drain Chavez to the max. .5 lbs lol But does anyone believe Jr cares, and he'll actually make weight?
When there are so many governing bodies and devalued belts, weight divisions become less relevant (because being a belt holder increasingly means less and less) and perversely they sometimes stop fights happening, or can be used as an excuse to avoid tough opponents. As much as I don't like how Canelo moves the goalposts almost fight-by-fight, there is an aspect to CWs which means better fights get made more often. Just pointing out the flip side to this.
I'm actually looking forward to this fight. These guys were on the path to fight years ago, but Junior outgrew middleweight (could be a discipline issue) and Canelo stayed at 154. It's kind of a now or never scenario as Junior has had major blemishes on his record, including failed tests.
I think if Chavez can make the weight, he has a legitimate chance here. He'll get in the ring with 10-15 lbs on Canelo
