Just got back from my Hometown (Dayton, Ohio) from a "Double-Duty" Vacation. Pleasure: Attending a Relative's Wedding. Business: Doing a story on Ohio State Football just up the road in Cloumbus. I had some free time so I stopped by "My old stomping Grounds" and check-out some young talent at Team America Boxing Gym in West Dayton. And I saw a kid that was supposed to be the Next Hoop Star from Dayton to Play in the NBA..like Daytonians Jim & John Paxon, Johnny Davis, Ron Harper and recently Daequan Cook (former 1st Rd pick of the Miami Heat, now with the Oklahoma City Thunder and 2009 3 Point Champion). This kid name Chris Pearson who was a "part-time" Boxer along with being a budding High School Basketball Player that had a little buzz about his game. But after tearing his ACL at an Elite Basketball Camp last summer and again the in the following November...He is now a Full-Time Amatuer Boxer and Looked SENSATIONAL in the Ring. Here is a List of accomplishments in the ring: Champion at the Junior Golden Gloves in 2004 and 2006 (Chattanooga, Tenn.); Semi-Finalist at the National Golden Gloves in 2007 (Chattanooga, Tenn.); 2007 Semi-Finalist at the Mid-Western Trials (Cincinnati, Ohio); 2009 Champion at the Ringside World Championships (Kansas City, Mo.). Now he has dreams of fighting for a Gold Medal in the 2012 Summer Games in London. 19 years old, A Boxer-Puncher with Power and a Southpaw....Could Be a Future Star!!! Only watched the first video, but he looks like quite a prospect. I do hope we'll see his name in professionel boxing some time.
I just showed a kid with serious big-time talent...and these are the responses, about religion. ESB is staring to become a F***ING JOKE!!!
Anyway, i'm mixed on this kid. He makes a lot of fatal mistakes, like being super off balance after a punch or combo, he resets very poorly including failing to keep his hands up. I did see some good things, a couple solid counters and some good physical ability, but as of right now, very flawed and the guy in the 2nd video who i actually thought showed off arguably better goods exploited it. Lots of gimmicks. I saw him keep his lead down in a sort of southpaw hitman. he's using that stance and not properly. If he can actually tighten up his fundamentals he would be probably owning some of these kids.
Bumpity Bump. Had to Bump after Pearson's showing in the WSB World Series of Boxing. Chris Pearson (fighting with Team L.A.) TKO'd Chris Jones (Team Memphis) in 4 Rounds There was plenty of buzz centered on Pearson, who made his WSB debut tonight. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, From the outset, Pearson’s piston-like jab had his opponent confused and backing up. In the third round Jones was badly hurt and in survival mode, but he showed great heart and toughed it out. The fourth round was more of the same as Jones survived, but his corner had seen enough. They called the bout and Jones failed to answer the bell for the fifth. Chris Pearson is definitely one to watch. I spoke with him a bit after the fight asked him about his goals. “I thought about going pro earlier this year, but I wanted to stay in the amateurs to get a shot at London in 2012”, he said. “I want to follow in the footsteps of Andre Ward, the last American to win a gold medal in the Olympics.” “I admire him”, he said, “I want to be like him and bring gold back to the USA next year.” Man, I wish some of you Posters could have seen Chris on the Basketball Court before he tore his ACL. A Left-Handed Derrick Rose.
