Only 2 guys with better resumes than Berto at 168 are Kessler & Taylor. Bertos resume is equal to or better than all the other guys.
It's pointless. I like the WW division just as much as the next guy, but to completely downplay the potential matchups at 168 because you don't recognize as many of the names because they haven't been on American television as much is bordering on ignorance. If you don't like or don't care to watch 168 lbers go at it, which is what it sounds like, I'm wasting my time trying to convince you to change your mind. As for Berto being p4p as good as Taylor or Kessler right now... there is no point in arguing with stupidity.
Although he should have lost to Andrade, Bute's wins over Joppy and Bika are better then Berto's best wins IMHO. Froch's win over Reid is about par w/ Forbes.
I totally agree. It's time we all get passed this "us and them" mentality or looking for only NAMES recognized.
Okay, I'll give Bute the edge. But imagine if 147's best fighter was Cintron, that would be ridiculous.
Cintron is the WW version of Miranda at SMW... lots of pop, limited skill, and prone to being stopped.
I respect your interest, but I'm not the marketing rep for 168. All I can do is tell you that in the top 4 you've got guys who are either undefeated (Bute, Froch) or have losses to only one guy (Kessler, Taylor) and a slew of tough 2nd tier *******s out there like Andrade, Bika, Miranda, and Green who could all combine for a round robin of potential fight-of-the-year matchups. Add that to solid, undefeated AMERICAN prospects coming up like Dirrell and Ward who should be challenging for titles within the next 18 months, and you are looking at a hot division. Not the hottest, but better than most. Are any of those fighters perfect? No. But as of right now few of the top fighters have faced one another, and while it's all talk right now, concensus is there are nothing but solid fights to be made right now anywhere near the top of 168. Unfortunately things like mandatories and cable networks get in the way sometimes, but hopefully the fighter and promoters stick to their guns and make big fights.
Berto's undefeated too and has yet to fight good comp, yet you equated him to Taylor and Kessler? Walk, an example of a good fight at 168 is Taylor/Froch, which is in negotiations right now. That would be the WW equivalent of Cotto coming off his loss to Margarito, tune up to Jennings, and challenging the undefeated Berto. If you'd be interested in Cotto/Berto, you've got no reason not to look forward to Taylor/Froch.
