Wilfred Benitez became the youngest world champion in Boxing history at the age of 17 by defeating experienced campaigner Antonio Cervantes in '76. He was a great fighter Benitez, even then, but how much of a chance was the youngster really given? Did Cervantes cite him as a threat at all? It's shocking to think that Benitez was put in there with an experienced champion like that considering only a year earlier, months earlier, he was fighting men with losing records. Can't quite get my head around it.
Never fear, if you rake through some old threads you'll find that highly esteemed poster Pepe had an extensive thread masterfully proving this fight was fixed.:yep
Pepe doesn't like Puerto Ricans. I remember him posting a picture of a very overweight and retired Wilfredo Gomez, claiming he could make 122 lbs on P.R. scales :rofl -- The Jose Napoles thread and the consistent shots at Carlos Ortiz (Napoles naming his pet chicken 'Carlos') kind of solidified it. Amusing stuff.
