see this is a big reason why the US aren't winning as many medals. A lot of our best amateurs decide to go pro early

Those guys are good but this Lubin kid is better. I see a showdown with Errol Spence in the future.

I know a lotta folk here see the ams as a joke - kinda like - go out there and make some money, kid, you're 18 now. Thing is 9 outta every 10 of these amateur talents ends up chewed up and spat out after a few years - winning early bouts, but lacking the seasoning that several years in the ams can bring.

This Kid Sounds like real quality by how much the US boxing team want him, but in the longer run, he'd probably do himself a favour by staying am - specially as the ams are now heading towards a more pro style, get the seasoning, get used to the big stage (Olympics, World championships) - even learn to lose in an environment where losing ain't fatal to your career.

Throwing an 18 y.o into the pros is like Darwinian selection - the 'fittest' may rise to the top, but it's the scrap heap for the majority who don't make the cut. By the time they find out in the pros tho, it can be too late for other options.

That said, the pitiful state of the US amateur program isn't exactly an encouragement to stay there either.

Read an article that said Lubin won National Golden Gloves at 152lbs, Toledo fought at the Olympics at 132lbs so what weight did they fight at 141?

Team USA have him down as 141.

Unusual to go down in weight at that age though, mis-print p'haps?
