175 lb 1st Round-Dick Tiger vs Roy Jones

I think Jones would be able to outspeed and outbox Tiger if he played it fairly conservative...any excessive showboating, then Tiger would maul him and cash in on that none too reliable chin of Jones.

 

Jones for me, landing with fast shots down the pipe and the roundhouse right hand when his man opens up, it's a movement and speed thing imo.

 

Well, Roy would need to be in nothing less than peak condition for this one. Roy's speed of course gives him an advantage there. However, given Tiger's sheer punching power and unrelenting assault, he just way wear Jr. Jones down.

Over 12, I see Roy getting a decision. Over 15, I don't know. The championship rounds are maybe just what Mr. Tiger needs to finally catch this other "cat". If anything can slow a speed "demon", it's a hard-punching "angel" of death.

 

apologies to tiger but roy would be too fast for him. if dick can catch roy consistently, pin him on the ropes, he can get some work done. however, being that they are both at their peaks, roy stays away the whole fight, jabs from a distance (which he could but RARELY did) and occasionally pops tiger with left hooks and straight rights. tiger can't get much business done and only takes 2 of the 12 rounds.

 

Tiger gets to Roy, if you think he went down hard when Tarver/Johnson caught him wait until Tiger nails him.

Having this bout at this stage of the tourney helps him because the 12 round distance certainly suits him more.

Dick would give a tough fight...its going to take an ultra safety first performance from Roy here. But I see him frustrating Tiger down the stretch, just to quick and he knows how to use it.

but h2h at 175 , jones wins.
tiger was always below 169 , and he even didn't have to make that weight ! this is a big size advantage for jones who's also quicker.

 

1) i did see some of jones' fights. (johnson,johnson,tarver,toney,pazienza,mccallum,castro,sosa,malinga,hopkins)
maybe i forgot some more that i saw.
2) the more important : you could also use stop reading boxrec in comparing a peak hearns at 154 or 147 vs. a shot jones at 175.
after seeing fights like hearns stopping duran at 154 and jones stopped by tarver at 175 and by johnson at 175.
it must convince me that the 147/154 hearns would have defeated the 175 roy , right ? i bet you think so , cause you DO watch fights.
