Monzon spooked many a guy with those wrists and the fists that were attached to them (l.ol).

This is definitely an interesting fight. I think that people seem to be dismissing Conn too easily and it is a shame. The closest thing that a light heavyweight Charles fought to Billy conn was probably Jimmy Bivins. In their first meeting, Charles was Knocked down several times for a 9 count and just held on to lose a lopsided decision. He did come back to win after this fight though. Conn, who fought an awful lot of his career as a middleweight or smaller has competed as highly as heavyweight. And his performance was against arguably the best ever, and was spectacular. Still, it is usually forgotten that he did lose this fight, and i disagree with the consensus, that it was because he threw caution to the wind. I think Joes power just eventually wore him down and he got KOd.

The ironic thing about this fight is that for two all time greats they actually had quite a few losses to other Light heavys and smaller opposition. This is a good fight and Conn definititely has a much better chance than the current votes suggest. Saying that, i predict that Ezzard is a little too naturally big strong and fast for Conn. In fact, i think he would probably Knock him out in the later rounds, just like Joe Louis did.

I don't think in general that people are dismissing Conn here. The problem is that he is up against Ezzard Charles who possibly/probably will go all the way in this tournament. It's just a bad draw for him.

Charles had great career, Conn had a great fight against Joe Louis. Conn did not do nearly as much as Charles. In Conn's defense, he did lose prime years in army dearing WW 2. Charles is one of greatest ever, top 5 lightheavy, perhaps number 1, and a top 10 heavyweight of all time. 3 wins over Archie Moore, one by ko as a lightheavy is just one great accompishment of Charles.

Yeah, the pic is blurred there making it hard to see.

On another note, how did this thread go from analyzing Charles-Conn to swooning over a half-naked Monzon? :huh
