15 rounds, no reason, no vote:good Note to forum members; the other four matchups need more votes! If you have a favourite make sure he has a chance by stating your claim for him to be victor (in particular, Galindez vs Loughran, a very interesting matchup which has about three votes thus far ) :good
I feel Bivins may be a trifle overated but Floyd's place in history is as a small HEAVYWEIGHT,Bivins by dec.He was not a big puncher.
Bivins absolutley crushes the inexperienced Patterson. An imagined Patterson at 175 in his peak would be head to head #1 at the weight, possibly, but that didn't happen. Wide, wide, wide UD to the experienced man.
Bivins did dominate younger versions of Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles. Lloyd Marshall and Melio Bettina were among his other victims during his prime LHW run. He was more experienced and accomplished at the weight but I don't think of the LHW version of Patterson as any worse than the Patterson who took out the great Archie Moore. Seeing a bit more film of Jimmy Bivins would help me decide. I don't think he was at his best in his filmed performances against Charles and Moore. Against Archie he displays solid boxing skills until being caught by an uppercut to the eye I believe.
I feel Bivins could outstrength the younger Floyd as Liston and Johansson did at Heavy. He was very strong, punches hard enough and was a wiley operator. I just haven't seen enough of Bivins to make a call.....don't want to resort to guesswork, that's where an analysis falls apart. I'll leave this one to the 'braver' posters :good
I think he looks **** against Charles ,but I am prepared to beleive he was much better than this, looking at his resume.
It was a pretty ugly fight by both men. Charles looks much better in his other filmed performances, I imagine Bivins does as well. I think he does a fair job of boxing here against Archie Moore at a very late part of his career: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmBHz6vDwuA
I gotta go with Bivins at this juncture. Floyd too green at 175. Bivins on a decision over the faster but inexperienced Patterson. Scartissue
I actually think the Patterson who was jobbed against Maxim may have had enough natural ability to win a decision over Bivins. It isnt like Patterson wasnt completely dominating LHW contenders at 175 like Durrelle (twice) amongst other fringe contender types. Look at how Patterson dominated some peoples no1 LHW of all time, Moore at HW only a year later weighing 182, he probably could have made 175 that night. He was surely an extrodinary LHW the year before none the less
I'm taking Bivins, i think he would stop Patterson as he jumps in with something, likely in the middle rounds, and finish it.
Bivins using his experience against the green Patterson. A safe & cautious Decision win. Patterson could be dangerous in a wild exchange.
