Pavlik got in the ring. That is the beginning and the end of the excuses. He wasn't hard up for money, he just thought he didn't need to be on top form to beat Hopkins. His mistake - it takes nothing away from Hopkins. Don't know why his fans can't just be adults about it and accept Pavlik ****ed up and was unprofessional and greedy.

Bet he'd still kick Pavlik's ass though. And he was the first to beat Miranda.

Pavlik's opposition in his few title defences haven't exactly been stellar either. The fact is MW is a very depleted division. Abraham's resumé in the sceem of things isn't that bad when you look at the quality of the division.

Since he became champ, Pavlik has only chosen to fight two people: Bernard Hopkins ten pounds above his proper weight class, and Paul Willliams.

Arthur Abraham's voluntary defences include that against Mahir Oral and Lujuan Simon.

There's no comparison in their desire to step it up.

Don't forget the great Elvin Ayala. A fight that rightfully belonged to Zuniga went to Ayala. Gee -- I wonder why?

AA chose to vacate his title and move up in weight to enter the super six tournament, no ambition you say?

I dont no how to get an avatar up or i would use it. B-hop looked unbeatable that night. Calzaghe knows he would get his ass skooled if they fought again just like the first fight but even worse.

A rematch would have been interesting to see what Hopkins could do differently, but it would probably be a snooze fest!

Think about it, by fight night, it will have been over a year since climbing into a ring...add that with his advanced age (almost 46 by then) and you have a body that needs to stay busy. The Jones fight is slated for the first quarter of '10...that means it might not go down until April...making him 46 years old and out of the ring for over a year and a half at that point. Doesnt matter how well Hopkins keeps himself in terms of shape, boxing a live body is a whole other animal and if he doesnt take a stay busy fight, he would be doing himself a disservice.

And after Taylor, Tarver, Winky, Calzaghe and Pavlik in succession, there shouldnt be a issue with him fighting ANYONE. Because if any fighter deserves an easy tune up, its Bernard.

    I've got to agree.

Though what was wrong with pavlik when he thought hopkins?? i thought pavlik was at peak and ready, and i'm almost embarrassed i didnt know any of this :D

I thought Hopkins win over pavlik after the disputed decision loss against calzaghe was fantastic, he knocked **** out of him.

    What was wrong with pavlik?

i rewatched the fight recently and the later rounds were brilliant for B-Hop. If the fight was a 15 rounder Pavlik would have been stopped.

Pavlik and Jack were obsessed with knocking Nard out which was a mistake. No shame to lose to Hopkins though.
