Addie your a legend, Kids that are boxing nowadays are spoiled with all these great videos free to watch. Fantastic Stuff.
Top stuff, Barrera looked 10 never mind 18. Ayala when they touch gloves cracked me up. Cheers :thumbsup
Awesome....:good What's the Youtube link to these Barrera fights...? I can't get the link off ESB to my iPhone...
The amazing thing about Barrera going pro at 18 is that he was from a wealthy family so it wasn't as though he needed the money like other mexican fighters did, the boy just must have absolute loved to fight.
He turned professional at 15. :good Erik Morales at 16. Everyone thought Marco was done by 1998. What he'd go on to do...simply awesome. Good point about his background. His family business, his father making sets for film and Television, was more than enough to see Marco live a wealthy life style for the rest of his life. It's too his credit that he fought as well as he did, for long as he did, under such circumstances. Disciplined little *******, even at 18.
He is also fully qualified lawyer if you didn't already know. When once asked why he was boxing instead of sitting at a desk for a living, he said something like: 'I can be a lawyer all of my life; I can only be a world boxing champion for a few years'. Absolute legend:deal.
Yeah sorry, meant to say 15 just had 18 in my mind since that's what age he was in this fight. Was he not pursuing a law degree as well before giving it up to train full time as a fighter?
He was indeed and if I'm not mistaken, he's fully qualified. Very intelligent man, it's really strange that he's a fighter given his background and stuff. Unbelievable, really. He was being groomed as the next Julio Cesar Chavez, he was fighting regularly for a youngster, and had notched up a record of 43-0 between 1989 and 1997.
Id like to see him stay retired. You have to wonder if his brains will still be intact and he will be able to tkae the law back up? Hopefully he's secure financially though and won't need to.
