A video of a 19 year old, and very different looking, Wanderlei Sliva doing Muay Thai... http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9uwvr_wanderlei-silva-1995_sport
I can't believe some people actually believe that a prime Wanderlei wouldnt have beaten easily Rich Franklin. Seriously, a prime W.Silva, TKO cleanly the best version of Rich Franklin. And it's not a knock on Franklin whos a quality fighter, but Wandy in his prime was such a beast. Or some others idiot who think Anderson Silva would make quick work for Wandy like he did vs Forrest Griffin.
It's silly how many fighters are on some sort of gear. Earlier, I was just looking at a list of UFC champs on Wikipedia and it was saying who got stripped cos of roid's and there are quite a few high profile names (these are only the ones we know of) - Barnett, Sherk, Sylvia etc
The thing is though its not. I doubt most of them are even taking it just for peformance enhancing reasons. MMA is a brutally tough sport. You can pick up a variety of injuries just trying to fight and make a living. If you cant fight you dont make a living. If a guy in your gym comes up to you and says i can give you this drug that will help you rehab alot quicker most fighters are going to think long and hard about it. Couple this with the psychological aspect of the sport and its not surprising that so many fighters are on hormones opiates recreational drugs etc. As far as im concerned drug abuse is rife in MMA and its hardly surprising. No amount of testing will ever prevent it. If there not on something that illegal there on something thats close to illegal. The sport almost demands it because of what the fighters physically have to go through.
When Franklin first started in MMA he was called a "freestyle fighter". Up to this day i still dont know wtf that means. Wandy's bread and butter was his Muay Thai. Wandy would do the same job on Rich that Silva did. Except WORSE!
