Barring Jack Johnson the black contenders were pretty much frozen out of the heavyweight title picture during this time. In hindsight did the World championship or the Colored championship have the better pool of talent?

I know that in theory the colored contenders should also be considered contenders for the world title but we know for various reasons they werent.

    Thoughts???

Coloured title was better Langford, Johnson, McVea, Jeanette, Wills and Godfrey. So many quality fighters even guys who unsuccessfully challenged for it like Jeff Clark. Always felt Johnson's defences of his coloured title were better then his "worlds" title opponents.

Yeah Ed Martin, Bill Tate, Frank Childs, Seal Harris, Larry Gaines are all sort of the forgotten men of that era. Would have been interesting to see how they would have gone in shots at the "real" title
