    :yep

All joking aside, though, I've never seen Sharkey and Marciano as particularly close stylistically. Both sides try to use the Jeff-Sharkey fights to prove what would have happened between Jeff and Marciano, but I don't really see it.

Marciano would be arrested for manslaughter after this one.

I would resist the temptation to draw huge inferences from the Sharkey fight.

The Jeffries of the Sharkey fight was basicaly fighting with one servicable arm and it was not his best. Jeffries never boasted that he could beat Tom Sharkey with one arm tied behind his back but he basicaly did that.

The Jeffries of that fight would have lost to Marciano. He said himself that he would have lost to Fitzsimmons that day.

He was a Natural, He was a good football and as said before NEARLY made it to the pros in Baseball, but his thowing arm was injured.

The trouble with Marciano and boxing was Marciano started around 23, with most greats are champions or almost there. Marciano mostly had to learn on the job there.

    Mr. Bill,

An athlete is someone who excels in other sports. Marciano excelled in other sports. He was nearly a pro baseball player, and he was a very good football player. That is an ATHLETE. just watch the guy roll around in his crouch sometime...ive never seen anybody move like that in my life. not only does it require incredible lower body strength, but also the ability to move your torso around athletically.

Marciano could easily have been a top flight distance runner in my humble opinion.

He would have been well suited to modern ultras.

Marciano had the build of a catcher. to bad he had a glass arm. but his build was ideal for a catcher. thick tree trunk legs. I read he could hit the baseball well over 400 feet.

Ultra running is all about endurance tactics and psychology.

Speed is about as usefull as a Triceratops collar in that sport.

The guys who walk up the hills beat the guys who run up them because they pace themselves better.

Jim was a tough nut but if he thinks Sharkey's attack was unrelenting, he would be overwhelmed by Marciano. In all my watchings of Jeffries' fights I have never seen a defensive strategy that could stiffle Marciano's attack. I say a modern ref lets it go 8 rounds

I did, however, find this picture of big Jim's face after a mythical Marciano bout:

Yes, fellas, but for Christ sake, baseball catcher's can also be slobs / fat as hell behind a plate........ A ball catcher doesn't fly very high with me........ Not in baseball anyway...... Even a strong-armed pitcher can own a girth and still zing a ball...... I'm talkin' bout goin' 12 to 15 hard-ass rds in the ring with a real live foe....... Not chewing and spitting tobacco behind the plate or on the friggin' mound...... WORD!
