Didn't happen. "A tall story was circulated, told years later by Levinsky's manager, Dan Morgan, to the effect that Levinsky had three fights on this date. However, despite much effort, only the fight was Smith has been found. The story seems to have been an invention of Morgan's."
It was a different sport back then. I doubt I will ever read a bio of Money May. But given the time, I will read ten thousand books on pre-1980 boxing..
Bull****! Dumb Dan Morgan did not make it up. Revisionist historians like yrself just delete history like a bad thread. Its amazing that all these 100 yr old facts proven throughout the years by witnesses and the records of the times are thrown out because some self named historian studying in a ****ing computor cant find something they are looking for.
Im no historian, revisionist or otherwise.I can only refer you to Box Rex. If you can find 3 fights for Levinsky on the date you provided I will be happy to say I am wrong. Until then this "tale" belongs with the one about Willie Pep wining a round against Jackie Graves without throwing punch.. Boxrec has more wrong bull**** and has changed the history of the sport. You know guys like me and you put the info in and any agenda we have goes in with it. **** boxrec. Do your own lifetime of study bud. YOUR experience and knowledge, not someone elses.
Exactly what study did you put in to get this info M ? CBZ agrees with Box rec that its a fabrication on the part of Levinsky's manager .If you have any further info lets have it.
Yes there are, and Levinsky often fought twice a week, but there is no primary source that has ever recorded him fighting more than once in a single day.All we have is his manager's word for it ,a manager notorious for his hyperbole and casual respect for the truth when hyping his fighters.
I have come across footnote paragraphs of boxing match reports, which name fighters and results, which have no entry in Boxrec. So, it's a given that fights are missing from Boxrec - for whatever reason. Fights, which are not reported on in the press of the times, at all, provide for a more complete vacuum. I mean, how does one quantify what has not been reported on? However, Battling Levinsky seems a much covered boxer of the period and, since there is a report of Levinsky vs Smith for their January 1st 1915 bout, it seems odd that no reports can be found on the other fights Levinsky was later alleged to have had, on the same night.
