Jack Johnson of the Willard fight Vs. Jack Dempsey of the second Tunney fight. Who wins this?

Dempsey absolutely slaughters him. Too strong, fast, powerful and skilled.

Would it be over 10 or 45 rounds?

Dempsey has to get him early for me, the longer the fight drags on, the more it's Johnson s fight.

    Interesting hypothetical frame.

Need a bit more of a think on it - definitely a fight I’d pay to watch. .

Could Johnson clamp down sufficiently to nullify Demspey’s inside game while ripping his own shots in close - especially his money punch, the uppercut?

Johnson needed next to no room for the uppercut and gave little or no hint just prior to its launch.

Hint to Lil Arthur: protect your yourself and particularly your nuts at all times.

Dempsey was stronger and more powerful than Johnson?

I could buy Dempsey as a more powerful puncher than Johnson, certainly with the left hook. Physically stronger seems a stretch though.

I'll take Dempsey, both men were diminished by the time of those fights, Johnson's fight with Willard and Tunney II
I think Dempsey had far more left

If Johnson survives the early rounds, he will jab and clinch Dempsey to death.

This. But even prime for prime I reckon I'd take Dempsey. Speed and firepower vs a mauler. I fancy Dempsey's lighter feet and faster hands.

It could turn into that for sure, but that version of Johnson seemed too worn to me to get a win.

Yeah I saw some of that fight, most rounds though were not exactly action packed.

Still fighting 26 rounds at that level means something, Johnson had good enough conditioning to outlast Dempsey.
