I don't know who wins but I'd bet the house that neither is getting stopped here.

Ali would hit Dempsey at will.

Dempsey would be unable to avoid punches on his way to a merciful stoppage loss or beating as long as it took.

Dempsey would hit Ali, specifically when Ali chose to tie him up and get close, but he would be neutralized, outpunched 5 to 1 in terms of meaningful punches...

"escaped" by ripping coopermans face off at will.

It took him 135 seconds in which to end the fight, thats all, just 135 seconds! once he decided he wanted to end it. Yeh... "barely escaped". Cooper was massacred at will like a comanche warrior facing down a gatling gun.

about the same amount of time that a retired shot never won anything compared to cooper sanders ripped apart the prime wlad that you think is such a hotshot.

    Well, styles make fights.

Ali was floored by left hooks by the links of Banks, Cooper, and Frazier, and had some problems with smaller pressure fighters, which Dempsey is. So Dempsey had the punch that tagged Ali, and has better two handed power than just about anyone Ali fought in the 1960's, outside of Liston who tanked it.

The first 5 rounds would be very lively here, and I would not rule out Dempsey landing something serious to hurt and floor Ali, but I question Dempsey's ability to be as dangerous in the mid to later rounds and think Ali at his best would take over and win a 10-5 type of decision or score late round TKO as Dempsey's defense to me looks suspect vs good boxers.

Frazier beat Ali not because he was monster puncher, but because he had more left in rounds 10-15. Chuvalo had some success once again because he was very tough with plenty of stamina like Frazier.

That's not a first. Ali stumbled to his corner after getting decked by Cooper and illegal smelling salts were used between rounds to revive him.

you forgot the part where Ali slices and dices his face and they stopped the fight thats all that counts. Ali would have done the same to Jack I (dont fight black fighters) Dempsey

so theres you claiming that a 170lb cooperman punch would have stopped ali.

and against your paltrid 170lber, theres ALL the 200+ lbs who punched ali harder, fazed ali, a few even dropped him, and still didnt stop him.

Which means that you are clinging to straws trying to prove a man who just got up and walked away form a knockdown, was getting koed.

I think the argument is that with or without a cornerman, ali simply got to his feet, walked back to his corner unaided, sat down and then 135 seconds later ended the fight.

You do realize that Dempsey was not a bleeder and was never stopped on cuts, right?

I think that you are selling Dempsey's head movement short somewhat here.

He slipped twice as many punches per round on average in the Gibbons fight, as Joe Frazier did in the FOTC.

I think he would give Ali some very real problems here.

Nobody ever hit Dempsey at will. The only bob and weave left hooker that Ali fought in his career gave him 3 brutal close fights. The first one which Ali happened to be floored and lost.

I was more using the data to demonstrate that Dempsey's head movement was at least as prolific as Frazier's.
