obviously dempsey would be stiff opposition for MA. But you'd tip the hat to ali by decision, and out of three, ali takes two.

Ray Arcel thought Dempsey could beat Ali, good enough for me.

Arcel was possibly the biggest Dempsey fanboy ever - so his opinion should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Here's my take .. Ali is not the most dangerous modern day match up for Dempsey because of his average power .. Dempsey had the skills (speed, power, reach , punch output) to make a very challenging fight against Ali. If the ref let's them fight you have to favor Ali by decision but who knows ?

Which of Dempsey's opponents administered more punishment upon their opponents than Ali did?

The only criteria for Arcel to be a Dempsey fanboy in your book is for his opinion to differ from yours.

I see the fast feet, bobbing and weaving, head movement, power and fast hands of Dempsey and think about the left hook of Cooper....then the hand and foot speed of Ali but the vulnerability of to the hook and the mobility, speed and ferocity of the Dempsey attack.....I see this fight as a faster version of the superfight by 67 Ali was peaking and in 19 Dempsey was peaking....tough call. The closest thing Ali fought to Dempsey's speed was Patterson and the closest thing Dempsey saw to a Ali mobility and skill was Tunney.

In a purely qualitative sense, who did Dempsey beat that was even near a 67 Ali, even near the same league?

Ali beat Liston, Frazier and Foreman.can you honestly rank Dempsey, head to head, over any of these?

Though I personally don't, it wouldn't be to outlandish to say so.

I'll say it again; Ali hits Dempsey at will and whips him.

Dempsey went life and death with Firpo, eating a huge right during the first exchange of the fight which knocked him down, then eating about 8 right hands in a row leading up to the famous out of the ring fiasco... If a guy like Firpo is force feeding you right hands you can't avoid, you're gonna have a bad night with Ali...

He's too open. I said Dempsey would hit Ali, it just won't be frequent or solid enough to rattle him.

    He makes Dempsey look ordinary.

Based upon beating whom would you rank Dempsey over the guys who beat Patterson, Ali and Frazier/Norton.

This Dempsey stuff is pure cult, smoke and mirrors without a substance that matches the top in the division's history. Are you really going rationalize Firpo, old ass Willard and Gibbons as evidence to compete with what the aforementioned accomplished? I dare say your burden of proof is a bit skewed and to please remove your offending toe from the scale.

Are Langford and Arcel in on this ploy?
