SuzieQ: like the other recent Willard thread, you MUST have intended to say the prime 1915 version, right? Not the 37 year old almost entirely inactive one who got fat & soft since '15. Regardless, I do not see his size & jab being enough to do more than lose a lopsided decision. Holyfield was even then about the top prime weight of the "Galveston Giant", + taller & longer. Skilled, great chin, & great counter puncher. A way off, untrained soft 37 year old Johnson virtually owned him over the 15 round distance, right? Until exhaustion slowly set in.
Holyfield would box his ears off unless Willard could draw him into some sort of slugging match where his size and durability would count the most. But Willard isn't a Bowe so I wouldn't count on it.
Jess Willard needs to placed in with men who are more on his level, i.e. Mike White, James Beattie, Art Tucker, etc... Then we'd have a discussion.
