Many here don't realize what kind of fighter Dempsey was. There is nothing like him in boxing today. Very quick, very hard crushing short puncher, he wanted to kill you in the ring. What Dempsey had you do not see anymore in the hwt division. Wilder is not one tenth of the fighter Dempsey was.
I went in thinking the same thing when I picked Huck to ko Povetkin. No CW should ever give a top 5 hvw a real fight. David almost beat Goliath. Povetkin is trash letting a cruiserweight beat upside his head. Pov is 36 and almost done.
Dempsey wouldn't give Wilder a fight, but he sure would have a great chance to beat Povetkin. Pov has trouble with CW's with big right hands.
Wilder's chin looks shaky, he doesn't have the greatest defence, and Jack Dempsey is a ferocious starter. Wilder better have taken out hospital insurance before this one. That said, Wilder has some power of his own, and he's a big dude, and better than Willard, so I wouldn't write him off entirely. Doesn't look good for Wilder though.
Here's Dempsey working the HW bag: [yt]aJkiwu_04dw[/yt] He'd fight at LHW or CW today. He'd get knocked out left and right by modern day HWs for being too small, crude and slow.
Dempsey was not crude....you need to look again. When you short punch as Dempsey did and was able to avoid shots with athletic grace as he was able to crude should not be a word that you use. Marciano was crude. Dempsey was much more akin to Louis than Marciano. Wilder is zero on the skill meter as compared to Dempsey.
And Dempsey was not slow! He was considered faster than Louis in terms of hand speed. Louis had incredibly quick hands. Regarding the video of him hitting the heavy bag he is performing for the camera not trying to hit the bag with all his power.
Hahah Yea, sure. The truth is boxers (just like football or tennis players) from the 1920s are awfully crude, slow and unathletic by today's standards. It's just how it is. Dempsey is just a nice example.
[YT]ENiJs6_2P2A[/YT] vs [YT]F2QjTroBo4U[/YT] [YT]9iu7YBoe_Pg[/YT] vs [YT]9Wc_9_fjjnw[/YT] Conclusion? Burger Squad is about Andrew Hartley level. Andrew Hartley vs Jack Dempsey? See how ridiculous that sounds? That's a 10 second fight max. I give Burger Squad 15-20 cause I'm feeling generous.
I think Wilder is an overrated hypejob but Dempsey would be too small compared to him, dont even mention Willard, Wilder moves like greased lightning compared to that slow, inactive chump. there are times in the Willard-Dempsey fight where you could go and grab a beer from the refrigerator in the time it takes Willard to throw a punch
12:41-13:03 [YT]yPtq7POYQUU[/YT] ''I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious, and most ruthless champion there's ever been. There's no one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No, I'm Alexander, he's no Alexander. I'm the best ever. There's never been anybody as ruthless. I'm Sonny Liston, I'm Jack Dempsey. There's no one like me. I'm from their cloth. There's no one that can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah.'' ---Mike Tyson vs ''I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious, and most ruthless champion there's ever been. There's no one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? Dempsey is considered great by experts for a reason. Wilder is considered......nothing for a reason. You have no clue concerning past great hwt champions.
Dempsey had incredibly quick hands....Check out the speed and number of punches he throws when he knocks down Tunney (The Long Count knockdown) in their second fight. You actually have to see it in slow motion to realize how many punches he threw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5rDUbO4NSc
