Dempsey on film looked like a fairly sharp, vicious puncher, but his technique was sometimes a bit crude and broke down almost completely in the Willard fight. But Willard was so busted up by that point it didn't really matter. I don't doubt that pound for pound he wrung about as much out of his body as it's possible to get, but his small stature and occasional sloppiness disqualify him for me in any historical debate of HW punchers.

Sharkey is lying about the punches not hurting. Just watch the video, Sharkey is visibly frustrated by round 6 of his inability to keep Jack off him and begins to engage less, I think Jack's work was getting to him.

I'd guess he realized technique wasn't needed against Willard after he landed that deep dish left hook

Again you show you have no idea what you are writing about. Fosters credentials as hwt were terrible. Carp was European hwt champion while Foster had no credentials whatsoever. Learn boxing history as you are a rank amateur right now.

Foster beat two heavyweights with wins better than any names on the records of those those Carpentier beat.
    Willie Besmanoff has wins over
    DeJohn
    Marshall
    Miteff
    McMurtry
    Baker
All ranked at one time or another

    Whitehurst has wins over
    Cavicchi
    Satterfield
    Peaks
    Jackson
3 of whom were ranked at one time or another
When were Wells,Smith or Beckett ever world class ?

Carpentiers victory to claim the Euro LHvy crown was over Dick Rice a third rater who was 29-5-4 Rice never beat a world class opponent.
    Neither did Wells

You a complete hoax and a moral coward because when called on your outlandish assertions you haven't the guts to step up to the plate and defend them with verified sources and reasoned argument .You just resort to the same old hackneyed mantra ,ie "do some research, you don't understand those times" etc ad nausem .
Fella, as a boxing aficionado you're a self promoting Fraud!

    Houdini Sugar LOL

Carp was the European hwt champion and light hwt champion of the world. Those titles in of themselves, even if you try to discount his worldwide popularity, his many multiple titles, and the thought he was the greatest fighter ever out of Europe, are vastly superior credentials.

He took the Euro titles from two second/third raters .
Want to take a look at the men that have held those titles and see how many of them had any pretensions to world class?
The Levinsky fight is thought by many to have been a fix.Just like the one in which Carpentier lost it!
You picked the right name Houdini ,his magic was all illusion too!

Again you are trying to make an argument from cherry picked information. Wins over Whitehurst and Besmanoff had no bearing on Fosters title shot whatsoever. Foster got his title shot because he was a world famous light heavyweight champion. Carp got his title shot because he was light hwt champion of the world as well as European hwt champion. Carp was also world famous multi champion with a list of championship titles from a very early age. Study up as your knowledge of the sport is sorely lacking. Pathetic!

At this point, I think we all have to assume that those quotes don't exist. I found a 1953 article where Sharkey raves about Dempsey's power with similar hyperbole though, and I'll try to post that today.

By the way, what makes you think Sharkey was being more accurate or sincere a quarter century later in the 1950s, when he was a forgotten champion and his battle with Dempsey was the one thing that people recalled about his career? Building Dempsey up into some superhuman puncher who would have run through the heavies of the 50s is obviously a way to build himself up too.

Dempsey was a superhuman (huge) puncher. This was never a question historically and a subject that’s undebatable. Certainly one I won’t debate with the likes of you.
