Yeah, it's so hyperbolic to pick a real legend over guys just known as being opponents.

I'm more of a fan of Baer now then I ever was, more footage. I don't recall ever speaking too highly of him or even very frequently of him until recently.

 

Nobody can give their honest opinion anymore.

Almost everyone's picks are an agenda to prop up their favorite fighter, and they don't care how outrageous it comes across anymore.

Max Baer is a real legend and it's not outrageous to pick him over guys just known for being opponents, and in the case of Tucker..not even a very good one.

 

I'd favor Tyson over Baer but only slightly. If Baer gets outta the first two rounds a war starts

 

No one's underrating Max Baer because we don't pick him to beat a prime Tyson. But winding up with a right hand from down yonder while leaving your chin hanging out like a lantern is not a formula for success against a young Tyson or a prime Lennox Lewis who was an ATG accurate, combo throwing power puncher with speed....and as we know, Max Baer wasn't successful against fighters with those kind of characteristics. I don't know why every time Tyson is picked to beat another fighter, no matter how obvious the reason, it's only because you're a Tyson fanboy. If I don't agree that Galento leaves a young Tyson face down in a puddle of blood and sweat after 1 round, does that make me a Tyson fanboy? Inquiring minds wish to know?

 

There are cases, because of styles, attributes and physical characteristics where it would be plausible to pick a non ATG top contender to beat an ATG hall of famer. Levinsky wrecking Tyson (at least if Tyson isn't forced to wear a blidfold and ear plugs) isn't one of them. But a 6'5 221 pound prime Tucker out boxing Max Baer and having the chin to take his shots is plausible in the extreme. Legacy is different that H2H. There are very specific reasons why one may pick Tucker over Max Baer. Reasons unrelated to Tucker being or not being a Mike Tyson opponent. No one's picking Tucker to win BECAUSE he lost to Tyson.

People on here pick Jerry Quarry to beat Rocky Marciano all the time yet Marciano is the one who's considered the ATG HOF champion. But somehow, it's just far out in left field to pick Tucker to out box Max Baer? And for the record, Tucker likely has a considerable chance at accomplishing that before Quarry beats Marciano.

 

First he's beating Lennox Lewis, then a prime Tyson.

Right!! While in this wilderness, the only exposure to boxing they had in Max Baer. That is the only thing that makes sense when reading some of the hyperbole posted about him on this site. Its like, are we really looking at the same videos of Max Baer? Maybe they don't even know who Max Baer is and are confusing him for somebody with some good technical skills.

 

Yeah, the video showing Max Baer chopping a tree down really convinces me he beats Tyson. I'll say this though, he showed more techincal skill with a saw and an axe than he does with gloves on.

 

That's the funny thing. I thought more of Baer when I saw less videos of him. The more I see, the more he goes down in my view, yet he's gone up in yours... odd
