I do not care one way or another, but I am surprised so many people here seem to believe newspaper quotes are always things that were actually said.

Most quotes in newspapers were probably just made up to fill the pages and sell something or other. The promoter or press agent or some leading sportswriter just made it up and others used it as copy. Any famous person I have seen interviewed on television, when questioned on quotes attributed them by the press has been unanimous in saying most of it is made up.
    It is not real.

The same press had Louis talking in exaggerated racial stereotype style, about his love of watermelon and ice cream.

Carnera couldn't even speak English according to some reports of the time.

Rex Layne was quoted as saying Joe Louis hit him harder than Marciano,he only boxed an exhibition with Joe ,whereas Rocky knocked him senseless.

Due respect MTM but isn’t it a simple case of not reading or replying to content that you would like to put an embargo on altogether? Are you saying that you have never made reference to or deferred to a backstory or testimony in part when forming an opinion?

Louis hit Carnera harder then Baer, Max hit others harder then Louis. It’s that simple.

Baer certainly pitched the right with all he had.

I agree Louis hit Carnera harder with the right hand and in general, proven resilience of opposition factored.

Despite the KDs, Carnera wasn’t as non competitive v Baer as it might seem. 11 KDs? Does that comprise several trips to the canvas that were actually just push/wrestle downs? Carnera apparently hurt his ankle early (perhaps not so surprising given the tumbles combined with his immense size).

Baer was obviously short on technique but his natural attributes, including a granite chin, terrific reach and potent right hand, that he put all his worth into also, saw him achieve exactly what he did. A powerful right hand no doubt but I can see where it has been a bit overrated at times including the inappropriate references to earlier ring tragedies as a gage of power.

Louis drove Braddock's teeth through his mouthpiece and into his lips with a single right hand

Yeah the punch is said to be the hardest Louis ever hit anyone but Braddock talked about it and was asked if Louis was the hardest puncher he ever faced he rubbed his jaw and said no that Baer was

Can you stop with the bumping of old threads over and over on the same subjects that have been discussed dozens of times?

You say this as if anyone could get bored talking about Marciano, Carnera, and Tua.
