    Johnson was a real @ss hat. He wanted to be the only black lineal champion. While you just can't take an opinion of the times and compare in in a modern context, some of the stuff he said would be considered Uncle Tom or even racists by some today.

    I can't say his comments on Dempsey and Louis was false.

    His opinions on how he would do vs. Dempsey or Louis, I think are wrong. Dempsey chops him up, and Louis after looking bad and losing a few rounds sparks him later.

    ok...this morning....after spending the week investigating this...i got confirmation from the actual author of this piece that this is indeed fiction.

    i never had reason to question before, as it has been posted on a few sites....like boxing.com and i took it at face value.

    person who wrote this is called george clark and i got an email for him and he confirmed what he wrote was fiction.

    i suppose i should apologise, i post a lot of stuff like this, and i guess you can't win 'em all. :(

    I'm sure I speak for everyone,[that's a first!] when I say how grateful we are for your contributions, no need for apologies. As I said that piece had ghostwriter written all over it. But it did afford Mendoza an opportunity to knock Johnson yet again so not a wasted effort.:lol:

    I respect 99% of the posters here and do not suspect a bogus article. In fact I'm sure you read this thread and didn't detect anything wrong until someone else told you.

    Are you going to deny that Johnson wasn't critical of Joe Louis?:lol::lol::lol:

    Didn't Louis want to train Braddock to help him defeat Joe Louis? I think so.

    i posted this on boxrec too...and it was people like yourself who were picking up on things like him saying 'black' instead of 'negro' and it just sounding wrong, thats what made me start looking into it last weekend.

    anyway...found the book where it was taken from and got an email for the author and asked him.

    i cant really have an issue with someone writing whatever they want, its a free world....but i think its bad form selling a book containing stuff like this without saying that its fiction.....i mean, its not obvious its fiction.

    like, where on the discription when you go to buy this does it say it contains chapters which are pure fiction ? (this is the book it was taken from)...

    Yeah, I should have recognised it really. I spoke to the editor at Boxing.com about this at the time (not this one specifically) because Clark did a whole series of these. I thought it was flat out wrong and said so but not joy. You'll need to keep your eyes skinned Doug, because there are about a dozen of these out there now.
