Their primes were separated by about 50 years. They were about the same size. Louis was 207 pounds vs Abe Simon and Buddy Baer. Holyfield was 208 vs Douglas and Foreman. Holyfield once remarked that he would "tear Joe Louis up".

Late Louis KO after a very tough fight.

This would be a very good fight and I believe both would have their moments. If they had multiple tries at each other, I would go with Joe Louis by decision victory most times.

That’s only because Joe Louis was dead. He wouldn’t say it if the Bomber were alive.

If - & there is room for discussion on it - but if you regard Holyfield as an all-timer at Heavy, this would be arguably Louis’ easiest night against a fellow ATG. I give it about eight rounds, & barring a possible knockdown, Louis won’t lose one minute against this guy.

I am surprised people can take this seriously. Louis would have had next to no chance.

Must be because of Holyfield’s corner team advantage. Or his accuracy advantage. Or his handspeed advantage. Or his stamina advantage. Or his disciplinary & ring IQ advantage. Or his superior finishing ability…

    Oh, wait!

EH s love for a brawl could be his downfall here.
Holyfield is leading then begin s to go for a KO, perfect for Louis.

Those are pretty lofty expectations you have for Louis

How’s Holyfield going to beat him? He can’t outbox him, he can’t win a brawl, he can’t rely on drawing him into counter-punching. Where’s the win going to come from?

Agree 100%--Holyfield's instincts to go mano y mano would work against him here. Once he got careless and gave Louis an opening that would be it. KO or stoppage late rounds for Louis (somewhere around the 12th or 13th.)

Holyfield seemed to have better durability. And he can hit hard enough to hurt Louis. In theory, he could outlast Louis.

I agree about durability. & he probably does hit hard enough, albeit barely, to hurt Louis. My issue is with his skillset, he really needs a one-punch KO. Regarding outlasting Louis though, I’d have to disagree. He already had poorer stamina than Louis as is - once they start hitting each other, & it turns out Louis can do way more damage, I don’t think it’ll be the Bomber breathing hard after a half-dozen rounds.

It would be an outstanding fight battled almost exclusively on the inside. Both men capable of hitting and hurting each other. I would favor Louis but acknowledge that Evander would have a chance
