Ali did stop Moore in 1962, but Moore was nearing 50 years old with nearly 230 fights under his belt so he obviously had overstayed his welcome by that time. But we saw the difficulty that Ali had with Henry Cooper and Doug Jones in 1963 and in my opinion, a 1951-55 Moore was a superior fighter (even at heavy) to Cooper and Jones. So could a 1951 Moore hypothetically defeat a 1963 Ali?
This portion of your statement sums up for me why I would pick Archie Moore to win under these circumstances... Moore by decision
Would have def went the distance and been harder for Ali but it would have been hard for him Archie to counter Ali always. Ali by UD most likely. Although Archie at his best had a shot against anyone imo
I think it would have been a close fight either way it went and as Ali's chin wasn't as developed at that time as it would later become, I do think Moore hit hard enough to deck a 1963 Ali and put him on the canvas.
I think that Moore would be too savy for unexperienced Ali. Close decision with Moore landing more powerful punches.
He did but I think stylistically Ali Holmes would have been terrible matchups for prime Archie. Archie would have better luck against guys like Quarry, Lyle, Bonavena, Ingo etc. guys who would stand in front of him basically. Those w elusive footwork always gave Archie trouble.
