The Joe Louis who fought Rocky Marciano in 1951 vs the Jack Dempsey of the 1927 Long Count fight. Scheduled for ten rounds. How do you see this one going?

Dempsey knocks him out. Louis was the better fighter and would win prime vs prime in my opinion, but Dempsey had a slightly better chin, a bit more firepower and is faster at this point. They wont have to much trouble landing on each other at this point, so Dempsey takes him out first.

My gosh, 1927 Dempsey destroys 1951 Louis...not fair at all. It's like asking who wins,...the Tyson of the Lewis fight or the Ali that was battered by Holmes.

Dempsey was way past his prime in 1927. He lost nearly every round vs Tunney and Sharkey. He couldn't stop a jab to save his life. This fight would be close. Louis could outpoint Dempsey.

Got to go with Dempsey in this scenario. He was younger than Louis and appeared to have a bit more left in the tank.

Dempsey by late stoppage. 1951 Louis was a shot fighter.

Shot or not, he was still good enough to be the # 2 heavyweight in the world in 1951. Would a 1927 Dempsey have done any better? Doubt it. He also would lose to Marciano and Charles.

Both men were at the end of their rope.. Louis was 37 years old on the comeback trail and his skills were visibly diminished. By 1927 Jack Dempsey had only fought perhaps once since 1923 and himself was well into his thirties.. Jack was probably still a tad faster and sharper while Joe was the slightly larger of the two and fighting more actively at that stage.. Toss up for me really. Can't see it being a given one way or the other...

    Both equally washed up.
Not sure who wins this, not sure who wins prime for prime.
Would be an entertaining battle, no question.

dempsey still had his power to use, plus i don't think he was quite as diminished. louis was coming down from a higher place, and is in the fight because his jab was still there but dempsey is my pick.

I think I'd definitely favor Louis prime for prime. His dominance and overall abilities withstood a longer duration of time and in all likelihood against a better crop of opponents.. As for both of them in the twilight of their careers I agree its a tossup.

Don't think '51 Louis has it in him to stop '27 Dempsey, and '27 Dempsey is going to be able to get to Louis, so I see that Jack stopping Louis.
'51 Louis would likely beat the Dempsey who exhibited in 1931.

    :good /2

'51 Louis more declined than '27 Dempsey, not as declined as '80 Ali.

This is one of the great myths .. Dempsey was past his prime for sure against Tunney both times but fought him pretty competitively both times, fading at the end .. as far as the Sharkey fight that is **** .. watch the fight .. Dempsey was extremely competitive and was turning the tide before the KO .. that being said that Dempsey destroys the Louis of 51 .. not even a good fight ...

joe Louis is my favourite heavyweight of alltime as much for his modesty, class and lack of gloating over his unlucky opponents, as for his uncanny explosive short and lethal combinations. Having said this the rusty Dempsey
of 1927 out of the ring for 3 years still would have done much better than Joe
Louis did against Rocky Marciano in 1951...I love Rocky Marciano who I saw ringside and training from a few feet from me, but as posted before the boxing experts in the 1950s during Rocky's championship reign in a large poll almost unanimously chose Dempsey to ko the much slower Marciano, and who should know more than they ? So I think that the Dempsey of 1927 though much slower than his Duran like prime would still beat anyone he hits and that includes Marciano...If I'm wrong I'm fully insured...
