Louis could beat Morrison or Moorer if his chin doesn't get in the way.

Louis took everything Charles could throw at him and Charles knocked guys flat like Valentino, Layne, Moore, Wallace and Satterfeild.

I don’t see the evidence that Moorer or Morrison knocked out guys of that stature in their era. What is the highest ranked guy Morrison and Moorer knocked out?

Razor Ruddock, Carl Williams, Pinky Thomas albeit they were all probably past their best as Louis would be in this scenario. Morrison was a 225lb heavyweight with quick hands and a good punch. It would be a pickem fight

Moorer? He stopped Alex Stewart, Bert Cooper, Mike 'the Giant" White and later on Frans Botha for a Belt

You really think Moorer and Morrison hit hard enough to ko a ATG?????? Even though joe was older his chin was still sound only Rocky could ko him! Himself a ATG and not only that a ATG puncher for gods sake! Them 2 clowns dont come close imo.

He fought Chaplin in December 1984 - five years and one month before fighting Foreman. Totally unimportant, but true.

Why would you say only Rocky can KO him?

I think Morrison certainly does have a chance. I don't know about Moorer. Louis/Moorer may have distance written over it as they were both plodders at this point with one guy being a Southpaw.

Morrison had an explosive hook. A guy like Tony Galento dropped Joe {a prime version} Morrison was certainly flawed but this is a 1951 version of Joe Louis in this scenario. If Morrison did KO Louis it would be nothing to brag about. Joe was way past his best form. Just being realistic about it.

Razor Ruddock, Pinklon Thomas and Carl Williams barely had a pulse when Morrison beat them. Each had been exposed at world level before. Williams a few times over. Thomas was a danger to himself. Ruddock had zero punch resistance after the Tyson fights. He took a lousy shot. Practically dead men walking all three of them.. clearly Morrison never beat a live fighter.

Alex Stewart was not rated when Moorer beat him. Stewart never beat a good fighter. That’s why he was not rated. Tyson already snuffed stewart out. So did the good fighters he met.
Mike the giant white already lost 11 times and obviously was not rated. often knocked out. Levi Billups has already knocked him out! This is a pathetic example.
Frans was rated in one organisation but he never beat anybody. It was not a clear knockout anyway. But at least Fans can go down as a live opponent.

Past his best but still the number 1 contender! Anyone who kos the number 1 has plenty to shout about. I said Only Rocky could ko him (at that time) because all the contenders he faced in 50- 51 ,including the champ Charles, failed! Joe had also, albeit 3 years, earlier held a ko win over current champ in Walcott.

A guy like Galento knocked out 57 men. But crucially he made the transition from knocking over tomato cans and knocked out live contenders like Al Ettore, Leroy Hayes, nattie Brown, Nathan Mann and stopped Lou Nova while Lou was the outstanding logical contender to Joe Louis.

nothing to brag about? If Pinky Thomas was a feather in his cap what would that make a number one contender like Joe Louis if Morrison could beat him?

yes but how far was Joe Louis’ best form above everything else? His best form was the best boxing athlete there has ever been. If you half that form and then watch that depleted version of Joe Louis still legitimately climb the ranks to number one in the ratings it still leaves a very good fighter.

A better fighter in my opinion than the fatter, balder George Foreman who did not climb the ranks. Instead George beat a guy with one win in six years, lost one challenge to the title then on the back of another loss challenged the next champion with only one win in two and a half years to his name..

So am I. Foreman was past his best. Louis was past his best. Joe Louis was younger and was a much more legitimate contender.

What was Joe Louis KO% during his comeback? Its all good, Nostalgia can be a good thing but it can also be a terrible thing when you let it cloud your judgment. I love Joe Louis too but saying a banger like Morrison can`t potentially hurt and or KO this version of Louis isn't being realistic. He was dropped by lesser punchers in his prime for God`s sake.

Now look at this Year ending rating.

    1950
    Ezzard Charles, Champion

    1. Joe Louis
    2. Lee Savold
    3. Joey Maxim
    4. Clarence Henry
    5. Bob Baker
    6. Rex Layne
    7. Jersey Joe Walcott
    8. Jack Gardner
    9. Lee Oma
    10. Rocky Marciano

    1951
    Jersey Joe Walcott, Champion

    1. Ezzard Charles
    2. Rocky Marciano

Joe Louis made the rating on the year after his loss to Marciano. Until he fought Rocky Joe was #1. A guy he beat was the champ.

Foreman eats a few jabs, then corners joe and pummels him within 3 rounds.
