I've had a retrospective of some of my previous input and am changing my direction, but only slightly! I agreed with his premise but that remark was tasteless and just plain WRONG!
Louis was the unbeaten champion so he was initially installed as #1. He challenged for his old title and lost. Then in a 10 month spree from 1950-51’ he beat #2 savold and #7 Brion to maintain that ranking. He beat Bivins in 51 who was ranked 9 in 52’. He had also beat Valentino rated in 49’ in 50’. Louis also held two wins over Walcott. He met layne and Henry in competitive “exhibitions” too. All in all 1951 Louis was a real #1 contender.
You haven't been to General lately, have you? Here it's leather armchairs, snifters of brandy and a roaring fire while it snows outside. In General the fire is in a drum with holes in it and skateboarders are trying to take each other's heads off with bicycle chains while drunk on pruno
Perhaps your memory is faulty. Do you have a clip of this? I have a clip of a 12 round fight where Morrison is using slow footwork on the outside and trading punches with Foreman at close range.
Morrison is indeed a big puncher, but early in the fight he landed a near perfect left hook - much like the one that flattened Ruddock -and George just ignored it like it was a ****ing raindrop. Interesting that he was never even knocked down in his comeback, and seems entirely unconcerned about being hurt. The only time I saw the Mister Clean version of George rattled by a single punch was, oddly enough, against Ken Lakusta -and that was only because he suddenly sprung up after a knockdown when George thought he was already finished and caught him off guard right on the chin with a hail-Mary haymaker. (George still finished him off about ten seconds later.)
We don’t know how much punch resistance Ruddock may have lost in the two Tyson fights and Lewis fight because he really never held any kind of shot against Lewis or Morrison did he? Either his anticipation had declined or his ability to hold a shot had crumbled. Ruddock was not the same guy. He was getting tagged more. Especially after Lewis dealt with him.
Well let me know what you think of them when you do. It seems all the people lining up to say they are so certain Comeback George was the real McCoy have never clapped eyes on how good the guys were Louis beat even AFTER he beat them. This content is protected This content is protected
Good links! I think that you may have a point. Brion and Bivvins looked pretty good there. Bivvins looks like he may lack size but they both seem pretty busy and fight with a lot of heart and pace. Maybe the gap between old Foreman and Louis isn't quite what I imagine it is.
Put this up twice already and the silence was deafening Chok? You quoted part of the reply it came with so i know you saw it
That's his only win against rated fighters! A unwarranted shot at the title in which he lost every single round then landed that shot that's won him the belt! Hats off to him he deserves great credit but chock is right he beat nobody rated to get that shot.
