Who wins?? In a battle of teh 2 lowly journeymen who handed big scary bullies Liston And Tyson their 1st ever losses? Liston was 24 yrs old [or 34 yrs old, or maybes even 44 yrs old for his nuthuggers] when he lost a 8 Round decision to Marty Marshall, Sonny was dropped And had his jaw broken. Tyson was 23 yrs old when Buster Douglas beat the bloody living **** out of him like a punchbag And ko'd him in 10 Rounds.

Buster in a win that would probably resemble his fight with Mike Williams. Marty Marshall was a crazy guy, not one to fight on a short notice without the experience in dealing with a wildman like that. Liston says his no-nonsense, intimidating attitude was a result of his fight with Marshall, where he openly laughed at Marshall's antics, and had his jaw broken as a result. But I'd take a motivated Douglas to use his size advantage and the heavy jab to eventually stop the often off-balance smaller man.

The astonishing jab of Buster Douglas's on display:

Mikey Williams was @217lbs of pure muscle when he lost to Big Bus Douglas, a whole 37lbs heavier then Marty Marshall when he upsetted Sonny Liston. And Mikey Williams was 16-1 with only a SD loss to Prime Timmy Witherspoon when he lost to Big Bus, But Marty Marshall had a shitty record of 18-5-2 VS Big Bear Liston. IMO Big Bus ko's Marty Marshall v.much faster then he did ko Mikey Williams.

douglas was at least a heavyweight contender who always had talent. big bus won fights against tough contenders in make or break fights that he never got the credit for. Greg page was in shape and on a comeback after losing to tubbs in a title fight, he was only 24-4 and hungry when buster beat him. he also beat mccall and berbick when both were still tough. cobb was suposed to beat douglas way back when and he was also in shape and had only lost to world champions when buster beat him also.

marsall was rated in another weight division the first time he fought LIston, that was the time marshall won. By the second time they met marshall had lost his LH rating to two lightheavyweights who beat him in back to back fights in the interval between fighting Liston the second time.
marshal never did that well against heavyweights and that is why he was not rated at heavyweight. world war II vet Marty had already been knocked out twice by (one round archie moore KO victim) embrell davidson and outpointed by toxie hall the only other heavyweight of note marshall had faced before fighting Liston.

    Nice post. :good

This isn't a fair fight, nobody is giving up 51lbs to a supremely conditioned Peak Douglas & winning.

I'll take Buster via ramrod jab KO within 3 rounds.

Tyson losing to Douglas was not really a blip or a freak loss to a journeyman. Douglas, if you examine his record, always was a great fighter, he just blew hot and cold because he was not groomed like a regular prospect. Around the Tyson fight he was genuinely among the best 3 fighters in the world. we just didn’t know it or credit that buster could be at that time. he slipped under the radar.

On the night that Douglas handed Tyson a thrashing,he was better allround than Marshall. Douglas by clear decision.
