But Moore was a better fighter than the smokin one, Bert Cooper

I agree. But, Bert was a little bigger than Moore, and hit just as hard. And Bert got hammered all night by William's jab and got stopped. In between 1983 and Mike Tyson (in '89), Williams had a pretty good run. The only real hiccup was running into a huge punch from Weaver that he never recovered from. Carl was far more skilled than any of the current champions campaigning today. (although his chin may let him down against Joshua, or a lucky punch from Wilder)

I agree with everything you said,...but, I can't shake a nagging suspicion that Williams would find a way to lose this.

Holmes was way past his prime

Cooper couldn’t carry Moore’s spit bucket. Moore was a master boxer with ATG defense. Cooper was easy to hit. Williams would struggle to land the jab vs Moore. Moore was a great counter puncher

Williams has a lot of similarities to Baker and Valdes, two tall big men Archie had his way with

You may be right. But, for Williams to bounce back from the Weaver debacle so convincingly against a Bert Cooper who was on a bit of a streak showed that Williams was no pushover at that stage in his career. By no means do I rate him anywhere near Moore pound for pound. But, Carl had an excellent jab and some pretty serious height and reach on The Mongoose. And he was much faster than Valdes. I agree Archie could win. But, I think he would have his hands pretty full, and wouldn't necessarily be favored in my opinion.

Williams with his size, speed and jab would be an awkward assignment for Archie. He also had a reasonable turn of power. It's a hard match to envisage for me.
