Nothing groundbreaking but I found this excerpt mildly interesting, especially considering that Moore only opened as less than a two-to-one favorite. From a syndicated Jimmy Breslin article, Managers of Patterson, Valdes Say Moore too Good for Olson, June 17, 1955: When Carl (Bobo) Olson and Archie Moore began training for their tangle at the Polo Grounds, June 22, Cus D’Amato was asked what he thought of the bout. “I would sign for an Olson match tomorrow,” the dapper guy who manages Floyd Patterson said. “But as far as the old guy Moore goes—believe me, there isn’t a bigger Archie Moore fan alive than I am. I would not let my guy fight him now.” This is the most damaging testimony offered on the chances for Olson, the middleweight champion, to lift Moore’s light-heavyweight crown.
