Some believe he was a great fighter an excellent champion who fought who was around ,and a fine man.
They also think some of the Rockista's on here do not have an ounce of objectivity or a practical grasp of reality.
That their unqualified ,rose colored worship of this man has seriously clouded their judgement and fatally compromised their credibility here. I include myself among those holding this opinion.

Could it be that someone dare say have a different opinion then you and others? When I speak of Ali’s or Foremans or Moore’s or Listons greatness I don’t get this push back. Only with Marciano (Liston slightly but not in this level). Truth is many just don’t agree with you and others but instead of being able to defend your argument and others you result to name calling (rockista, hero worship etc). Just the facts sir. You can say there are questions in regards to his resume and how he would respond to certain styles he didn’t see. But to claim on every other thread he’d get knocked out by these third raters is absurd by his detractors

Many ,many here have differing views on boxers to me,that does not make them right or wrong .
I don't have an argument, regarding Marciano, but I am prepared to defend my opinions on him with anyone and have done so over more than a decade.
I have never claimed Marciano would be knocked out by third raters.
You are a poster who státed that a prime Cleveland Williams could not beat Bob Satterfield whom you called a 50's journeyman .
    1.Williams was 20 years old .
2.Williams was a 2 day sub for that fight.
3.Satterfield was a top ten ranked heavyweight for 4 consecutive years .
Given these statements by you. Seriously, why would I give any credence or gravitas to your utterances?

Are you a Clevelanista? I wouldn’t call you thag. If just say you have a different opinion then me and I’d also say they fought each other there is nothing to argue as to who would win. Satterfield was a stepping stone and Cleveland couldn’t get over it. Is what it is. Satterfield was a damn good fighter no shame in it but he was a journey man.

You have emphatically proved my point for me! What you call is is of no importance to me,if some one whose opinion I value got on my case it would be another matter!

    Journeymen do not have a series of wins over the likes of;
    Baker
    Johnson
    Mederos
    Holman
    Summerlin
    Valdes
    Gomez
    Oma
    Smith
    Andrews

Don got bounced around by Marciano - it was one of Marciano's worst fights because everyone anticipated a 1st rd KO over Don- credit to Don C he hung in there and did not get hit with one the type of shots Moore and Charles and Walcott or Layne got hit with but he still got battered - I remember Evander Holyfield having trouble KO'ing former middleweight Bobby Czyz it was not impressive but Evander KO'd Mike Tyson in his next fight and Bobby got KO'd in 1 by Corrie Sanders in his next fight - Don C showed heart getting up and not quitting but that was the extent of it- He did not fight the best Marciano but he was still battered and bounced

Cokkell was hammered and he shipped plenty of big shots throughout the fight !
    Don't kid yourself about that!
"My best punches didn't seem to affect him" Marciano

Cokkell never had that much of a chin at any time in his career.

I meant no insult in calling Satterfield a journeyman it’s just what most people refer to him as. Williams was a good fighter but he lost to Satterfield fair and square. He also lacks quality wins. But I don’t call you a mythical fan boy Clevlandista I just understand you have differing opinion on the matter. I don’t see anyone thinking Marciano was the greatest all time. Most people put him in their top ten and rightfully so. What gets most logical fans mad is comparing him to the likes of third raters and thinking he losses every fight to anyone above 200. That shows a lack of understanding of the sport and the man.

What opponent did rocky ko early who was a quality fighter and wasnt old or who had prior brutal ko losses?

    Zero.

That's the part you're not getting!

Anyone can have early KO's against shopworn/old or weak chinned opponents. News flash: even if the opponent is "ranked" you cant compare that opponent to another fighter who has a lower ranking but is even more durable.

Don cokkel was stopped 6x before facing rocky. He retired with 9 ko losses. By no means was he a durable fighter. Him being ranked #2 does NOT change this fact!

Walcott being ranked doesnt change the fact he had several brutal KO losses before facing rocky and had a very long career. I say the same thing about Anthony Joshua koing wladmir klitschko. It was a great fight and an Impressive win, but wladmir isnt the most durable boxer, he was old, and he had been stopped several times previously. These are facts.

The part you cant get through your thick skull is that the majority of rocky's opponents (even some of the best ones) weren't vert durable fighters! Many had been stopped even faster than rocky did, which you keep ignoring.

Tyson is regarded as one of the biggest punchers because he kod so many boxers who were prime and durable and did so in quick devastating fashion (berbick, spinks, biggs, Williams, etc). It has nothing to do with size, Rocky doesnt have opponents like that.

Foreman destroyed Chuvalo, Norton, Frazier, Lyle, Moore, early.

Lennox Lewis destroyed Golota, Ruddock, Briggs, early.

What durable prime fighters did rocky ko early? I'll wait. And dont pull rex layne out your ass.

Jesus ****ing Christ. Ten pages? On a quote? What the ****?

    How's about this...
Rocky hit hard. He also threw alot and could wear people down. People may have been hit harder by other fighters, that doesn't mean they hit harder.

Lol you do realize you bringing up Tyson Foreman and Lewis as being better punches means nothing to your argument? They happen to be part of the only SIX fighters whom knocked out opponents quicker. They were better punchers. That’s what you guys don’t get there is literally only six men who knocked out people quicker SIX. You people are trying to say he didn’t have knock out power have zero idea what you’re talking about. Zero. You can’t say don’t count fighters like Layne or Lastarza who were never knocked out till meeting Rocky. Or knocking out Matthews, Louis, Charles Walcott x2 Archie Vingo Reynolds and literally everyone he fought with the exception of like two or three people. All these people don’t count because you don’t want to count them? Lol get off it. He didn’t even take an L in all those fights unlike many of the people you bring up whom
Were beaten by second or third tier fighters. I also don’t see Marciano dropping a fight to Young, Rahman, or Douglas.

I see Marciano being beaten by the Douglas that beat Tyson and I would have a substantial, [for me] bet on it!
