The following was recently forwarded to me by a fellow named Steve Spiro so I thought I would share it. This came out very near the date of Sam's death. Interesting that Woodman still mentions Johnson being knocked down by Sam in this article. I know that Fleischer wrote that Woodman finally admitted to him that Sam didn't knock Johnson down but I thought that Fleischer said that prior to the date of the following article. I don't remember off the top of my head. A pastor named Kenneth Sullivan who visited Sam in a nursing home in the 1950's wrote of that visit and said Sam told him that he'd knocked Johnson down at one point in the fight and Duke Mullins (Australian trainer) said Sam told him the same thing. Irregardless it's clear that Johnson gave him a beating in that fight but the whole question of whether or not Johnson really went down at one point in that fight, whether he slipped, or slipped and was hit at the same time and local newspapers didn't comment on it as a result remains a bit of a mystery to me. There are a few other things in the following article that are puzzling to me as well, including Woodman's reference to Choynski. : I also found the number of bouts that Woodman claimed Langford fought professionally of interest.
