Because I'm asking who is the better light heavy.

18 year old Ali vs a prime Roy Jones.
(Ali is good, but not that good)

This is actually the first ESB poll I have seen where the majority have picked against Jones at 168.. and the fighter is an amateur...

If Roy retired after Ruiz.... People would be debating on if Ali could beat Roy at all...

But since he dropped back to LHW and declined and got knocked out, now an amatuer Ali beats Roy at Roy's best weight..

I have a hard time picking anyone to beat Jones at 168... that includes amateur Ali, amatuer Lewis ect.....

Thats the thing.. He isn't asking if HW Ali could beat Roy at 168... He is asking if amateur 168 Ali could beat peak Roy at 168..

Anyone who believes this is delusional at best..

Just as Roy from the Olympics does not beat Mayweather at 147...

Amateurs during Ali's era were much closer to pro's than the amateurs of today. They did not even wear head gear. Ali had lots of experience as an amateur; again, in an an amateur game that was much closer to a pro game then it is today (or even when Roy was an amateur)

It would take professional experience to beat Roy Jones Jr at 168.. end of story.... And if you were a promising fighter, I am sure your managers would at least want 20 pro fights under your belt first.

Any amateur from any era, would lose to peak Roy at 168.. I can't believe so many think otherwise.

That Roy from the Olympics is at least a level or two in pure talent above 147 Mayweather. Green or not, he's too gifted.

It would also be one of the few fictional fights were Ali would actually be the slower one.

At heavyweight Clay for sure, but at middleweight while i'd still favor Clay, I'd give Jones a chance.

I just keep coming back to this thread....

I guess I am bothered by the amount of posters that think an Amateur fighter with no pro experience can beat Roy at 168... Even the great Ali, no amateur can beat a H2H beast like Roy at his best weight....

I wish this poll was public...

Sure Ali was one of the greatest ever... and my second favorite of all time... But he does not beat 168 Jones at 168 as an amateur... How would he have prepared? He never saw anything like a peak Roy as an amateur.. he would have been dumbfounded just like James Toney was....

Ali did lose as an amateur... up to 8 times and against fighters that did not turn out to be great professionals..... Anyone that knows boxing would suspect a peak professional Roy at 168 would be loss 9....

Are you ****ing ******ed? Ali is AT LEAST as good as RJJ and much bigger. Yes, Roy was close to unbeatable. When you're fighting the ****ing GOAT, being 'close' to unbeatable most likely isn't good enough. Also, the fight is at 175.

Also if you're the Olympic representative of your country, at least at that time, you aren't some ordinary amateur.

Clay had problems with counterpunchers: Doug Jones, Cooper, Norton. RJJ beats Clay handily at LHW.
