Both of these men would get their fair share of votes as "Best Bantamweight Ever." So, let's match them up early in their respective title reigns and see what happens.
great fight. good clash of styles. olivares was more of a slugger than a boxer. if you didnt watch out, he was swarming all over you. jofre was more of a boxer puncher. the way he boxed, he reminded me of alexis arguello. nice, textbook punches, straight as an arrow and very accurate. both had great power. if they caught you right, it was over. but there is one big difference: olivares had only an average chin. he was knocked out very often. and not tko´ed.....i mean knocked out in the classic sense. jofres chin was a hard one. given their styles, i see olivares putting on the pressure and jofre looking to keep him at the end of his punches. personally i think jofres straighter punches will allow him to get off first when olivares comes in with his hooks. that will have him in front on points going into round 8........when jofre puts away olivares with a single right hand bomb.
Going with my gut, Jofre's name springs up. These two guys are monsters, arguable NO1s. Would be a war.
Olivares was maybe the most dynamic of all bantamweight champions but Jofre didn't really have any clear weaknesses. A totally focussed Olivares could win this but Jofre was the more consistent performer so I'm picking him by late KO.
Great as Olivares was and he was Magnificat. You really can’t go against Jofre of around that time. Olivares wider swings would play into Jofre’s straighter, more accurate blows.
